It's official pyjamas-all-day season. We've hit the time of the year when our desire to wear real clothes is at an all-time low. From here on out, it's loose and elastic waistbands only, please. Thankfully, brands have caught wind of our sartorial laziness and our favourite labels have created silk sets so beautiful you could wear them from the couch to Christmas cocktails and straight into bed again—with the addition of a few styling tips of course.
Our fashion queen herself Rihanna recently demonstrated how to wear pyjamas publicly as she stepped out in Los Angeles wearing a striped set from Bottega Veneta’s Pre-Fall 24 collection. Of course, being Rihanna she could get away with wearing bin bag and look cool, but her outfit offered inspiration for the rest of us plebs who aspire to look put-together during 'Twixmas and beyond.

RiRi paired her look with leopard-print Fenty x Puma trainers and a vintage Louis Vuitton bag (designed by Marc Jacobs), demonstrating the importance of accessorising when it comes to making pyjamas look appropriate for outdoors.
We know the end of year sartorial slump makes getting dressed difficult, so below are our three tips for how to wear your sleepers out-out. Try now, thank us later.
First of all, I'd be lying if I told you that you can wear any pyjamas out and about. Some sleepwear are strictly for the house and no amount of accessorising will change that (sorry), so if you are looking for a versatile set, there are certain criteria they need to meet. A more structured style is preferred, which means something with a tailored shoulder or crisp lines. Almost like a suit, if you will, but in silk-satin. Second, a fun print always helps jazz up the look. Opt for something monochrome where possible to keep things elevated and chic. Extra points for feathers.
Given how, um, minimal our outfit's going to be, we'll need the accessories to do the heavy lifting. It is what's going to make the pyjama set feel outdoor-appropriate. Where possible stay away from your everyday white trainers and put on heeled boots platforms. That little lift goes a long way in helping elevate the look, both literally and sartorially. Then come the handbag and jewellery. Take a page out of Rihanna's book and go for a luxury handbag if you can or, just throw on a sparkly clutch or some giant jewellery. Nothing says “I'm ready for a party" like a pair of chandelier earrings.
Now for the final touch. You're obviously not going to roll out of bed and into the cold with just your pyjamas. The coat you choose will let people know whether the pyjamas were intentional or a snooze-gone-wrong decision. Your ratty old down jacket? Please put that aside. You want a statement coat that, where possible, references the colour or print on your pyjamas. If that sounds like too much work, at least reach for a coat with structure or formal detail. Remember, we're going for sleep-chic, not slapdash!
