As snow descends onto our streets and kids around the country get excited about building snowmen, a fashion panic ensues. What do I wear?
Finding the perfect balance between the outdoorsy, Aspen-chic and everyday city style can be quite tricky, especially when you're having to tick quite a few boxes at once. Warm? Check. Slip-resistant? Check. Waterproof but stylish? Check, check. As always, the best thing to do when in a style dilemma is to look to stylish celebs for inspiration. Whether it's Mariah Carey and Bella Hadid bumping into each other off-piste or Sabrina Carpenter and Emma Chamberlain holidaying together, the 2026 recipe to snow-ready style is pretty simple: neutral layers worn with a statement coat.
Faux fur is the most favoured statement of all, whether it's constructed in a patchwork style or featuring an animal print. The statement coat, either cinched in the waist or worn open with a scarf, can be both long and hip-length, though it's good to make sure its colours match the rest of the outfit. The idea is for the outerwear to be star of the show, and it's always a good idea to play with opposites – a luxe-looking coat with casual shoes, like UGGs or cowboy boots.
For further proof that snow-ready looks can be chic indeed, have a look at some of our favourite winter looks featuring statement outerwear:
Mariah Carey
Her peak season might be over, but Mariah still finds a way to stun. The queen of Christmas is currently holidaying in Aspen, and this short furry coat cinched with a chunky chain belt is exactly the kind of decadence we want to bring into 2026.
Rama Duwaji
While it's no surprise that New York's First Lady chic inaugurational look sent the alt-right into a frenzy, it was quite unexpected for the reason to be the price of her Miista shoes. Styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, Duwaji's outfit featured a major coat moment from Renaissance Renaissance (founded by Palestinian-Lebanese designer Cynthia Merhej), which perfectly reflected her husband's political approach – unapologetically forward-thinking, but with ample respect for history.
Bella Hadid

Roaming through the snowy streets of Colorado, everyone's favourite cowgirl slipped into the ultimate high-low mix – oversized Chanel bag and fur coat on top, black leggings and classic UGGs on the bottom.
Kim Kardashian
Is Kim still in method acting mode for her role in All's Fair? Who knows, but this maximalist fit shows just how to pull off a corset in the winter while looking like the main villain. What if Cruella de Vil made brown her signature colour?
Kate Hudson

An update on her iconic Penny Lane coat, Kate's patchwork faux fur and shearling takes the 1970s inspiration into a very modern direction. Best worn with a pair of wide flares and a dog poking out of your cross-body bag.
Emma Chamberlain & Sabrina Carpenter
In a friendship we're all excited about, statement coats clearly play a supporting role. For Sabrina, it's a white version of a silhouette that's become synonymous with Danish brand Saks Potts and their Foxy coat. Meanwhile, Emma went for something a bit more understated but equally impactful – a shearling duffle with contrasting details. We'd gladly take both into our wardrobe.
Ciara
There's maxi coats and there's MAXI coats. Ciara is wearing the latter, in a lovely shade of grey and layered over an all-white look and some major jewellery. The oversized collar really takes it to the next level.
Rachel Zoe
The latest addidition to the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is best known for her boho style, so it's nice to see it translated into the winter season. Leather trousers, cowboy hat and a slouchy bag are a great contrast to the snow-coloured vintage fur.
Brooks Nader
Après-ski but make it fun! Model Brooks Nader makes an argument for quilted puffer jackets in unexpected shapes. The 1980s, Dynasty-esque cut, the Hermès Kelly in oxblood and the stark white Yeti shoes – this is the kind of chaotic fashion we absolutely love.
