This month’s full moon falls in go-getting, fiery Aries in the early hours of 7 October (at 4.47am in the UK), ushering in a cosmic opportunity to release and reset. It’s a pretty special one, too. Not only is it a rare October Harvest Moon (this moon falls more commonly in September, as it’s the name given to the full moon closest to that month’s autumn equinox), it’s also a super moon and the first super moon of 2025 at that. This means it’ll appear bigger and brighter in the sky – a beaming reminder to tune in, believe in magic and maximise the potential of the season ahead.

Harvest Moons represent an opportunity to reflect on how far we have come and consider what we have achieved, as well as looking forward to the future. This is a full moon that urges you to put yourself first, go after a goal and take a risk or two. Aries energy is potent and powerful and this is your chance to make the most of it.

Here's everything to know, including what this month's full super moon means for you.

What is the Harvest Moon?

The name Harvest Moon is given to the full moon that is closest to the autumn equinox. This year, that moon falls in October. It’s traditionally called the Harvest Moon because it arrives at the same time as crops are being harvested, shedding additional natural light upon the process.

October's full moon is also a supermoon

This month's full moon is a super moon, meaning it appears visually bigger and brighter than usual due to its orbit being closer to Earth. This is the first super moon of 2025, with two more to follow in November and December.

As per the Natural History Museum: “supermoons cast about 30% more light on the planet than when the Moon is at its dimmest. This is because as it is closer, more of the Sun's rays that reflect off the lunar surface make it to Earth.”

When can I see October's full supermoon?

If the clouds oblige, the best time to see the full Harvest Moon will be the evenings of 6/7 October in the UK. It will be at its fullest at 4.47am on 7 October 2025 for UK sky-watchers.
