A ring’s as good as a medal!
Alice Finot, the French steeplechaser (it’s a track & field event that’s like an obstacle course) who broke the European record for the 3,000m event at the Paris Olympics but just missed the podium, coming in fourth, surprised the crowd by proposing to her boyfriend just after the race. And he said yes! Or, I guess he said “oui!”
Rather than a ring, it looks like Finot proposed with a pin, which she had pinned on her shirt behind her name tag. She takes the traditional pose, down on one knee, and after her joyfully overwhelmed fiancé says yes, she pins the item on his shirt and they kiss. Check out the adorable moment below.

It’s a refreshing reversal of a move we’ve seen a few times. Not only is a woman proposing to her man, when typically the question is popped in the other direction, but it’s also the first time I can remember that the athlete has proposed to their partner at the end of an event, rather than the noncompeting partner proposing to the athlete.
Although sometimes, like in the case of the Chinese badminton players, both get a medal before the big moment.
Of course there are people with Opinions about where and when and who regarding proposals, like whether it’s okay to make someone’s individual glory “about” the relationship. But let’s consider that in the 21st century, most couples on the verge of engagement have probably had conversations about the moment, and know each other well enough to gauge what kind of proposal their partner would be into. At least, they know each other better than we the public know either of them, so let’s just be happy for the lovebirds, ’kay?
