Emma Roberts is a redhead again for the first time in nearly a decade

She looks like she was born to have this “sunrise red” hair colour.

The Hollywood Robertses have a pretty famous redhead you might have heard of. Does the name Julia Roberts ring a bell? Even though she strays away from shades of auburn every now and then, when you picture her, you probably picture red hair. Well, I'm not saying it's a competition, but it now looks like another talented member of the famous acting family — her niece, Emma Roberts — may very well become just as if not more well-known for being an iconic redhead.

Emma Roberts has been some fabulous version of blonde for quite some time now, interrupting her fair-haired streak with the occasional brunette detour. We haven't seen the American Horror Story star sporting red hair since 2017 — in fact, it's been almost exactly eight years since she debuted the bold colour, and it lasted only a couple of months. But, after far too long of a wait if you ask me, Emma has revived the red, and it's even more gorgeous than before.

On Sunday, February 2, Emma posted two outrageously beautiful selfies to Instagram showing her understandably enjoying what is now a perfect ginger shade of red. Not too light nor too dark, the coppery colour is warm yet bright, with few highlights. She captioned the photos with “🌅 SUNRISE RED 🌅” and credited Nine Zero One salon legends Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri for the new look.

On Monday, she followed up the photos with a video that really emphasises just how big of a makeover this is. It starts out with Emma standing in front of the camera with chest-length blonde hair and, after a little magic (and a whole lot of colouring and styling talent), she reveals her now super-long, vibrant hair.

“I created this shade for Emma as she needed to go red for an upcoming role,” Lee shared. “This multi-reflective tone is perfect on Emma in so many ways. It makes her eyes pop and is stunning on her skin tone.”

Lee says she used Wella Illumina Permanent Hair Colour and then Wella Colour Touch throughout her mids and ends to balance the tone. “Riawna and I added in Great Lengths hair extensions for volume and length,” she added. "Riawna cut her ends with wispy layers so her hair felt light and free. We love this look on Emma — it’s giving a very modern take on Julia Roberts's hair in the '90s."

Clearly, Emma doesn't mind a reference to Aunt Julia because she's unabashedly loving how her hair looks — and now I'm pondering returning to my redhead era, too.
