As we continue to grapple with the ongoing national emergency that is violence against women and girls, a new TV series – Curfew – is set to tell a story set in an alternative reality, exploring what could happen if men were kept inside under “curfew” to keep women safe – and the complexities that may come with that.
Starring Alexandra Burke, Industry's Sarah Parish and Gavin and Stacey's Larry Lamb, it sees a brutal murder occur during curfew hours, with Parish playing a police officer investigating who the culprit might be. Was it a man out after curfew, or could a woman have committed this act? The politics around the curfew and the pressure for it to succeed seem to factor into the investigation as well, with all not being as it seems.
Here's what we know so far about Curfew – including an exclusive look at the trailer.
What is Curfew about?
According to a synopsis, the TV series will tell the story of an "alternative reality, where all men live under ‘The Women’s Safety Act’, bound by a strict curfew from 7PM to 7AM every night with their movements tracked by an ankle tag 24 hours a day.
"The series kicks off with the discovery of a woman’s body brutally murdered during curfew hours, and left on the steps of the Women’s Safety Centre. Veteran Police Officer Pamela Green (Sarah Parish) believes that a man is responsible and leads the charge in the hunt for the killer. However, in a world where men are bound by the curfew system, Pamela’s theory is rejected: that the introduction of The Women’s Safety Act almost three years ago is widely considered effective at protecting women – who have been able to go out at night without looking over their shoulders – and nobody wants to hear different.
“Determined to prove a man committed this murder, Pamela’s investigation threatens to bring The Women’s Safety Act crashing down… people in high places are determined to make the curfew a success and will do all it takes to prevent Pamela from discovering the truth.”

Curfew trailer
Curfew's trailer sets the scene of a country in protest and turmoil over the implementation of a curfew for men – the impact of toxic masculinity and many characters questioning and debating if a woman could be capable of the level of violence that the murder would have required. Or… if the curfew had been broken? We can't wait to get to the bottom of this one.
