It's official - white trainers are taking a trend break and colourful styles are in for autumn 2023.

And just like that, autumn was here - well, not quite yet. Meteorologically, we still have summer until early September, but that doesn't seem to have mattered to the weather in recent weeks. We've been given our first taste of the rainy and cooler days ahead, and with it the upcoming change in our wardrobe.

And even if the summer does still bless us with a few sunny days, we are already preparing ourselves for autumn fashion, especially when it comes to our shoes. Because as much as we love airy slingbacks, ballerinas and Birkenstocks in summer, no shoe comes close to the all-rounder that we can wear (almost) throughout the year: the trainer.

And for autumn 2023 they're not only more robust, but also a lot more colourful.

Instead of classic white, beige or cream-coloured sneakers, we'll all be opting for more colourful styles this autum. How do we know this? Supermodels and street style stars are showing the way…

Hailey Bieber, who seems to have an unerring sense for sneaker trends, has already started swapping white sneaker models for red, yellow or green kicks during the year. Fellow model Bella Hadid already chose cobalt blue as her sneaker trend colour last fall. Even Jennifer Lawrence is on board, having been spotted in recent months wearing purple and green Adidas Sambas and Gazelles.

Don't get us wrong, white trainers will forever remain an absolute classic in the shoe closet because it simply goes with everything. But for those looking to mix things up next season (to perhaps give themselves a fashion mood boost as well), sneakers with colourful accents might be just the thing.

Billie Eilish is another big fan She launched a new collection with Nike earlier this week, presenting the "Alpha Air Force Low" with red and black colour details. Ganni also showed at Copenhagen Fashion Week the result of the latest collaboration with New Balance, which consisted of neon yellow sneakers.

As proven by Hailey Bieber, Emily Ratajkowski and Jennifer Lawrence, colourful trainers make even the simplest looks more exciting. Whether it's the minimalist classic with a trench coat and jeans, or the pared-down business look consisting of a shirtdress: sneakers in pink, yellow or blue create exciting contrasts and give the classic look a twist.

There is also quite a pragmatic advantage over the white models, as on rainy autumn days dirt and co. are less visible on colourful shoes.

Minimalist, simple outfits in muted tones are perfect for sneakers in bright colors. This way, you can give the neutral look an interesting splash of color and provide more individuality in your outfit.

However, exciting and maximalist looks are also ideal as a base for a pair of colourful sneakers, with even the trendy trekking sneakers from Salomon now available in a wide variety of colour combinations.

If you still prefer the classic runner sneakers, you can also try the latest color variations from Adidas for the Sambas and Gazelles models instead.
