Cobra Kai season 6 has well and truly left us hanging with the first instalment of the series. After that cliffhanger finale, fans have mixed feelings about it all, with no sign of any type of closure for at least four months time when the next part of the series is set to be released.

The Netflix Karate Kid spinoff follows Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and the next-gen fighters as they approach the looming Sekai Taikai international karate tournament.

So where did the season 6 finale leave off? Here's everything to know about how Cobra Kai ends.

How does Cobra Kai end?

Heading into Cobra Kai season 6, Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) has gone and Johnny and his girlfriend expecting a child together. Daniel, Johnny and Chozen (Yuji Okumoto) are getting the Valley's karate kids ready for the Sekai Taikai. Meanwhile, in the finale of season 5 John Kreese (Martin Kove) is brought back into the mix, with him faking his death and escaping from prison.

The first part of season 6 focuses on Miyagi-Do preparations for the Sekai Taikai as the students battle it out for a place in the tournament. Ultimately, the competitors are named as Miguel (Xolo Maridueña), Sam (Mary Mouser), Robby (Tanner Buchanan), Demetri (Gianni DeCenzo), Devon (Oona O’Brien) and Tory (Peyton List), with one of the dojo's best fighters Hawk (Jacob Bertrand) notably absent from the line-up.

The finale of part 1 sees several one-on-one fights to establish team captains and competitors. Amidst this, Kreese make an appearance, telling Tory that she'll "never belong" anywhere other than Cobra Kai. Though she dismisses him, we also later find out that Tory's mother who has been battling kidney disease has died.

While Tory wants to fight through her emotions on the mat, after the group learn about the news they insist that she call off the fight against her wishes. Angry and upset, Tory leaves Miyagi-Do and exclaims that she's quitting.

Enter, Hawk. Filling in for Tory at the tournament, the final scene of Cobra Kai season 6 part 2 sees him take her place, while Tory moves over to rival dojo Cobra Kai. Meanwhile, Tory's boyfriend Robby (Tanner Buchanan) takes the team captain role, beating out Miguel (Xolo Maridueña).

What will happen in Cobra Kai season 6 part 2 and 3?

Beyond picking up from that major bombshell ending of part 1, according to Cobra Kai's creators, the second part of the series will focus on building out the story as Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do approach the Sekai Taikai tournament. But don't expect total closure any time soon.

In an interview, show creator Jon Hurwitz said “For the final five, it’s not only closing out Cobra Kai as a series, but it’s digging all the way back to the Karate Kid movies. It’s a resolution for a lot of these characters and new beginnings for them as well in different ways. If you’ve been a fan for just a few years, or if you’ve been a fan for 40 years, you’re in for a real treat in the final five.”

Roll on 2025.
