It's been a few years since we last met Chloe Moretz's character Hit-Girl in Kick Ass, and it seems she's grown more girl-powered in the sequel.

The 15-year-old actress told Digital Spy: "I liked where my character was going," Chloe said of her role in the second film, and while she thought the first film was more male-centred, she explained that another writing team came in to "collaborate with Jeff (Wadlow, the director) and create more a female side of the character, and really show the 'maternal aspect' this time around."

Underlining her knowledge of story development, Chloe explained: "You kind of have to have that female driven character, you can't just have the crass 11-year-old be 15, 16 - it's not so cute anymore."

And on the parallels between filming Kick Ass 2 and Carrie, Chloe admitted she "spent more time filming in high school than (I've) spent in high school in my entire life," and that "there's a mean girl anywhere in the world - no matter where you are - there's always someone trying to bring you down, and you gotta have that inner super hero, that inner strength to rise above it."

Kick Ass 2 is in theatres now.
