Chanel made us want a plate bag

Karl Lagerfeld staged his latest Chanel spectacular this morning, and this season it was held at the Brasserie Gabrielle (sadly, not a real place, but here's to hoping).

The main talking points? The setting aside, all eyes were on Cara Delevingne's new dyed black hair and her dark smoky eyes, as well as the shoes, which came in sling back and low-heeled pumps. However, special mention must also go to Chanel's new plate clutch - we don't care how impractical or ridiculous, we need one immediately. Only Lagerfeld could make anyone covet a plate as a bag, but he also made us want a hula hoop and perfume bottle in bag form - such is the power of Chanel's leading man.

"With the accessories came the kitsch-chic humour," said Glamour's Senior Fashion Features Editor at Large Katherine Ormerod. "The double plate clutch is an instant collectible as are the Chanel newspapers and the compact tote - just the thing for a lady needing to use Brasserie Gabrielle's powder room."

Guests, including Florence Welch, sat at tables surrounding the catwalk, Chanel muse Baptiste Giabiconi held court behind the bar and the photographers were positioned in a dessert stall.

"Karl is the master of applying wit to a theme," said Ormerod. "From the beautifully embellished white maxi aprons layered over trousers to the bow ties and French maid's lace be-ribboned collars, the collection gave the classic waiter's uniform a high fashion makeover.

"There was also heavy quilting, creating a spongy 3D texture to jackets and coats, but instead of the Chanel's typical tweeds we had wipe-clean, synthetic fabrics," added Ormerod. "There were also plenty of ensembles for the bourgeoise brasserie-goer with tartan wool skirts, patterned fine gauge knits and oversized tweed coats offering a wardrobe of versatile separates."

Models, such as Delevingne and Kendall Jenner, took a seat in the café after taking their turn and sipped Champagne and orange juice - it was as wonderfully decadent as we could have hoped from the brand whose previous catwalk sets have included underwater kingdoms, wind farms and mazes.
