If you choose only one sculpting undergarment, make it one of the best shapewear bodysuits. I love dressing up, and for years I’ve turned to various women’s shapewear to feel confident and supported. I used to gravitate toward shaper shorts since I mostly wear dresses—until I discovered that bodysuits can make you look snatched and curvy (a power combination) while often eliminating the need for a bra.

Along with two other Glamour editors, I tested more than 20 highly rated bodysuits from well-known and lesser-known brands like Spanx, Skims, and Honeylove. They ranged from lightly compressive to OMG-get-this-off-me tight, with different necklines, cuts, and closure styles. Our top pick was the Honeylove Cami Bodysuit, which offered impressive tummy control, followed by the under-£25 ShaperX Bodysuit, a soft, comfortable everyday option.

It goes without saying: you don't need to wear shapewear. Don't buy a shapewear bodysuit to change your body or to squeeze into smaller clothing. Instead, consider your shapewear bodysuit as a tool to enhance what you already have, and help you feel more confident.

Whether you need a thong, strapless, or one-piece for special occasions, below, find a bodysuit for every need.

Best Overall: Honeylove Cami Bodysuit

Why we love it: "The Honeylove Cami Bodysuit is a favourite among multiple Glamour staffers and contributors, and I quickly understood why. It’s easy to step into and feels thick and secure, with double-lined fabric that offers supportive compression without feeling overly restrictive — I could comfortably wear it all day.

“The high-waist briefs flow into a padded, wire-free bust with adjustable medium-width straps, and the removable padding makes it more flexible across cup sizes. A three-hook-and-eye gusset lets you adjust the fit at the crotch. The camisole offers full back coverage, which worked well under a flowy midi-dress but could show visible compression lines with tighter fabrics. I wore the Sand shade in a medium, which fit true to size, and after washing it in a lingerie bag and hanging it to dry, it still looked good as new.”

More to know:

  • Great for: Smoothing under tops and dresses; everyday wear
  • Worth noting: Visible compression lines; cut does not prevent thigh chafing
  • Sizing: XS–3X
  • Materials: Nylon, spandex
  • Colours: 4 options
  • Closure: Pull-on with adjustable hook-and-eye gusset

Why we love it: "This under-£50 Shapermint shapewear bodysuit is soft and lightly shaping without feeling restrictive. The straps are adjustable, and while there’s no built-in boob support, I could wear it with or without a bra.

“I found it easy to wear all day — on its own with jeans as a tank-top alternative in the summer or under a dress for a seamless look. Subtle breathable mesh panels on the sides stayed inconspicuous under clothing, and the full back coverage with a three-snap gusset made bathroom breaks easy, though panty lines might show under sheer or silk skirts. I tried the black in size large and would size up one size.”

More to know:

  • Great for: Smoothing under skirts and dresses
  • Worth noting: Visible panty lines; runs small
  • Sizing: S–4XL
  • Materials: Nylon, spandex
  • Colours: 11 options
  • Closure: Pull-on style with snap gusset

Most Comfortable: Shaperx Seamless Shapewear Bodysuit

Why we love it: This Amazon bestseller is built for everyday wear, says our tester. “It’s basic and not wildly compressive, which makes it easy to pull on and peel off—something that can’t be said for a lot of bodysuits,” says Glamour commerce editor Malia Griggs.

“I can wear it on its own with jeans or under clothes, smoothing my tummy without feeling constrictive. The material is soft and stretchy but thick enough to avoid visible panty lines. There’s no padding in the bra, but it still supports, and you could always pair it with your own. It has a gusset that unfastens, so I don’t have to pull it off entirely to pee.”

While it doesn’t have the structure or features (such as a deep neckline) of dressier pieces, the V-neck one-piece is one of the most comfortable everyday shapewear options we tested—and under £50 too.

More to know:

  • Great for: Everyday wear
  • Worth noting: Neckline is too high to pair with tops or dresses that plunge or have open backs
  • Sizing: XXS—4X
  • Materials: Nylon, spandex
  • Colours: 5 options
  • Closure: Pull-on style with hook-and-eye gusset

Why we love it: “I rarely wear low necklines because sticky bras never stay put, but this low-back, mid-thigh bodysuit, which I chose in champagne beige, size large) worked perfectly under my plunging halter wedding guest dress. Its U-shaped front sits smoothly under tricky necklines, staying hidden and secure without feeling binding. Clear and matching straps let you wear it halter, criss-cross, or racerback, and a gusset you pull aside makes bathroom breaks easy (a plus, especially with bridal shapewear). The back can stay open or use a bra-extender panel for extra support, and the mid-thigh hem stays put without digging in. Even without underwire, it offers more support than tape or stick-on bras, and gives tummy compression. As expected from Spanx, the materials feel high-quality, making this a versatile, reliable choice for special occasions.”

More to know:

  • Great for: Plunging necklines and open backs you might find in special-occasion outfits
  • Worth noting: Not a ton of bust support for larger chests
  • Sizing: XS–XL
  • Materials: Nylon, elastane
  • Colours: 4 options
  • Closure: Pull-on style with pull‑aside gusset

Best for Plus Sizing or Post-C-Section: Skims Seamless Sculpt Mid-Thigh Bodysuit

Why we love it: "I tried this bodysuit in shade Jasper, size large (but it goes up to 4X in plus sizes). It really made a difference on my stomach, especially after having a child via C-section. Everything felt exactly where it should be. There is a slit in the crotch for bathroom breaks, which is definitely necessary.

“I liked that the adjustable straps were far to the side to accommodate a wider neckline. The quality of this garment is great, and it even has thin padding in the butt for lift. It almost feels like a tight scuba suit, in the best way possible. I will definitely be reaching for this again if I’m wearing something short and tight. I do think you can go up one size for a more comfortable experience.”

More to know:

  • Great for: Allover smoothing and antichafing
  • Worth noting: Challenging to take on and off
  • Sizing: XXS–4X
  • Materials: Polyamide, elastane
  • Colours: 7 options
  • Closure: Pull-on style with open gusset

Why we love it: "I tried this one in brown, size medium, and appreciated the firm control, convertible straps, and comfort this seamless thong bodysuit provides. The thong cut hides lines under tight or clingy bottoms, perfect for dresses or fitted pants. It’s not overly tight, so it works well as a daily basic under T-shirts or dresses for light smoothing. Adjustable straps and a two-snap crotch make bathroom trips easy.

“The fabric is super stretchy, so it’s easy to pull on and off. While it’s not the most compressive, it smooths everything and creates a polished look. At under £50 and stocked on Amazon, it’s a simple way to elevate your everyday outfit.”

More to know:

  • Great for: Everyday wear
  • Worth noting: Not very compressive
  • Sizing: S–XXL
  • Materials: Nylon, spandex
  • Colours: 4 options
  • Closure: Pull-on style with two-snap gusset

Why we love it: “For special occasions, this strapless bodysuit is a no-brainer. The moulded underwire cups feel really supportive, with band sizes 34–40 and cup sizes C–G for a comfortable fit. I never feel like I’m tugging it up, a problem I’ve had with other strapless bras and shapewear. Convertible, adjustable straps let you wear it multiple ways, and the front is double-lined, super soft, and silky. The crotch has a hook-and-eye closure with a full-brief cut. I love this bra-bodysuit combo for wedding season, as it delivers an hourglass shape while staying hidden under tricky neckline styles.”

More to know:

  • Great for: Special occasions; strapless dresses
  • Worth noting: Pricey; limited colour options
  • Sizing: 34C–40G
  • Materials: Nylon, spandex
  • Colours,: 2 options
  • Closure: Pull-on style with hook-and-eye gusset

Your Shapewear Bodysuit FAQs, Answered:

How did we test the best shapewear bodysuits?

Three Glamour editors, including myself, tested more than 20 bodysuits chosen for their popularity and online buzz. We wore them under a range of outfits — dresses, leggings, and jeans — to see how they performed. We noted comfort, fit, smoothing, ease of putting on and taking off, bathroom accessibility, and the durability of the material. Our favourites are included in this story, and you can read more about how we test here.

What should you consider when choosing a shapewear bodysuit?

Think about your main goal—e.g., smoothing, tummy control, or enhancing curves—and the outfit you’ll wear the bodysuit under. Consider cup support, fabric thickness, closure style, and whether you need strapless, convertible straps, or a thong cut to avoid visible panty lines.

How do you go to the bathroom in the best shapewear bodysuits?

Most bodysuits have gussets that unfasten so you don’t have to remove the whole piece. Closures usually include hook-and-eye, snaps, or pull-aside panels. I always check the gusset style before committing to a bodysuit to make sure bathroom trips are easy.
