They ranged from lightly compressive to OMG-get-this-off-me tight, with different necklines, cuts, and closure styles. Our top pick was the Honeylove Cami Bodysuit, which offered impressive tummy control, followed by the under-£25 ShaperX Bodysuit, a soft, comfortable everyday option.

A three-hook-and-eye gusset lets you adjust the fit at the crotch. The camisole offers full back coverage, which worked well under a flowy midi-dress but could show visible compression lines with tighter fabrics. I wore the Sand shade in a medium, which fit true to size, and after washing it in a lingerie bag and hanging it to dry, it still looked good as new.”

Why we love it: "This under-£50 Shapermint shapewear bodysuit is soft and lightly shaping without feeling restrictive. The straps are adjustable, and while there’s no built-in boob support, I could wear it with or without a bra.

“I found it easy to wear all day — on its own with jeans as a tank-top alternative in the summer or under a dress for a seamless look. Subtle breathable mesh panels on the sides stayed inconspicuous under clothing, and the full back coverage with a three-snap gusset made bathroom breaks easy, though panty lines might show under sheer or silk skirts. Why we love it: This Amazon bestseller is built for everyday wear, says our tester. “It’s basic and not wildly compressive, which makes it easy to pull on and peel off—something that can’t be said for a lot of bodysuits,” says Glamour commerce editor Malia Griggs.

“I can wear it on its own with jeans or under clothes, smoothing my tummy without feeling constrictive. The material is soft and stretchy but thick enough to avoid visible panty lines. There’s no padding in the bra, but it still supports, and you could always pair it with your own. It has a gusset that unfastens, so I don’t have to pull it off entirely to pee.”

While it doesn’t have the structure or features (such as a deep neckline) of dressier pieces, the V-neck one-piece is one of the most comfortable everyday shapewear options we tested—and under £50 too.

Why we love it: "I tried this bodysuit in shade Jasper, size large (but it goes up to 4X in plus sizes). It really made a difference on my stomach, especially after having a child via C-section. Everything felt exactly where it should be. There is a slit in the crotch for bathroom breaks, which is definitely necessary.

“I liked that the adjustable straps were far to the side to accommodate a wider neckline. The quality of this garment is great, and it even has thin padding in the butt for lift.
