THE HYPE:
Who hasn’t owned a Benefit blush or bronzer in some shape or form? Benetint? Dandelion? The (still incomparable) Hula? This is a new offering of the boxed, powder variety: a blusher/highlighter hybrid. Scented too, because why the hell not?

BEAUTY BIO:
I get crazy excited about new product launches, but day-to-day like a low-key look, and try bold trends for silly selfies at home. I have a big mouth – both literally and figuratively – and look like a clown in red lipstick. The struggle to find a 10/10 mascara is real.

WHAT I USUALLY LOOK FOR IN A BLUSHER:
I’m not married to powder, cream or liquid formulas, but have been spending most of my time with liquid recently. The blendability of them is magic. That being said, I bronze with a brush. Liberally. Colour wise I usually go for a bricky-pink or something a bit tan, which suits my skin tone better than brights.

BENEFIT GOLD RUSH REVIEW:
The newest boxed-blusher (brush included) launch from Benefit is a ‘rich golden-nectar’ blush infused with ‘delicate, golden flecks for a subtle, sophisticated sheen’. The packaging – cute as always – is inspired by the gold miners of the Wild West. Yee-haw!

The gold flecks scare me a bit. There’s a lot of them. I’m worried it’s going to be a Fenty ‘Trophy Wife’ situation, which looks mega on some people but is a bit too bold gold for me. But this is, as promised, subtle. It goes on so subtly in fact that I apply three times to build to a good flushed look (I do have olive toned skin). I used my fingers to build it up a bit, which strengthened the colour.

The colour is very warm and not too pink, or orange, or red. I'd say it’s more of a light brick. The gold flecks make it luminous, rather than sparkly, so the light can bounce off of my cheeks.

THE VERDICT:
The shade is similar to my favourite Glossier product, Cloud Paint, in ‘Dusk’, but a subtle powder version. Plus with a bit of added shimmer. I’d say it’s a good option if you want a hint of blush, and a hint of highlighting, but nothing extreme. I’m into it.
