Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively are back for the sequel to A Simple Favour, which will be rather aptly named Another Simple Favour.
The original movie, based on the Darcey Bell novel of the same name, was a huge hit – a black comedy seeing Anna's character Stephanie begin to obsess over Blake's character Emily, and resolves to solve the mystery of what happens to her when she disappears. Bridesmaids boss Paul Feig directed, and will also return to helm the sequel.
We've even been teased with one first look image, of Stephanie and Emily sharing a classy-looking drink poolside.
Last spring, Variety reported the beginning of production on the film, with Kendrick speaking out on how “dark and f**ked up” the sequel will be. “I was so happy. We filmed it in Italy this spring and summer,” she shared. “It felt like it wasn’t ever actually going to come together. Then it did, and the script was awesome. It’s really dark and f**ked up in all the ways that the first one was.”
Here's everything we know so far about A Simple Favour sequel, Another Simple Favour.
Another Simple Favour plot
The film's synopsis reads: "Another Simple Favour sees the return of Stephanie Smothers (Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Lively) as they head to the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman.
“Along with glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square.”
We imagine there will be something of a time jump, seeing as the previous film ended with Emily going to prison – seeing as we check back in with her on her wedding day, some serious time must have passed.
Another Simple Favour cast
Alongside Anna and Blake, returning cast members for Another Simple Favour include Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, and Ian Ho, along with new members of the cast such as Allison Janney, Michele Morrone and Elizabeth Perkins. Kelly McCormack and Taylor Ortega will also star.
Another Simple Favour release date
After premiering at 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival in March, the sequel will drop on Amazon Prime Video on 1 May.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be back at my favourite festival in the world where we successfully launched Bridesmaids and Spy, and I cannot begin to say how honoured I am to have our film opening it all,” director Paul Feig said. “I’ve avoided making sequels to any of my films but these characters were just too much fun not to revisit."
