“I think it's very clear from the set design…”

While we can't keep track of every film and television newcomer out there, we have done our best to whittle down the talent to 17 rising stars who are set to make waves in 2023. Get to know more about them, their acting CV so far, and what you can catch them in the next year before they become bonafide Oscar-winners one day!
Darren GerrishNaomi Ackie
Prepare to see a lot of Naomi Ackie, whose turn as the iconic Whitney Houston in the upcoming biographical film I Wanna Dance with Somebody at the end of the year will most certainly have her name on the lips of every critic well into next year. Jeff SpicerBella Ramsey
British actress Bella Ramsey is known for her roles in Game Of Thrones and The Worst Witch, but she will be levelling up in 2023 in the lead role for the upcoming post-apocalyptic HBO adaptation of the 2013 video game The Last of Us. The series will premiere on Sky Atlantic and NOW on 16th January 2023 and is not one to be missed. Bella is certainly booked and busy, and we love that for her.
Jeff SpicerTamara Lawrance
After graduating from the famous acting school RADA in 2015, Tamara Lawrance has been steadily rising to the top of her game with performances such as Prince Harry's republican girlfriend in the BBC television film King Charles III, as well as Viola in the 2017 stage production of Twelfth Night. And if her upcoming role in the real-life inspired movie The Silent Twins (for which she won Best Joint Performance alongside Letitia Wright at the British Independent Film Awards) and the new television miniseries Get Millie Black is anything to go by, Tamara is definitely one to watch in the future.
Stephane Cardinale - CorbisTalia Ryder
From playing a young teen accompanying her cousin to New York City for an abortion in Never Rarely Sometimes Always, to the super-cool high-schooler in Netflix's Do Revenge, Talia Ryder has already impressed us with the varying roles. She's starring in not one, not two, but three movies in 2023 - Joika, Little Death and Dumb Money, so rest assured, you'll be seeing a lot of her!
Frazer HarrisonKathryn Newton
Playing Reese Witherspoon's daughter in Big Little Lies was a big gig for anyone, but that wasn't enough for Kathryn Newton, who is set to have a fantastic 2023 with her upcoming projects. We will soon see her in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania alongside Paul Rudd. Speaking of her role in the movie, the 25-year-old said: "I'm really not perfect, and I'm super impatient, and I want to be a hero, but I have no idea what I'm doing, and I think Cassie Lang is like that. She's just trying to figure out how to be a good person and, you know, making a lot of mistakes. She's kind of a mess, really, yeah, and so am I," she told ET. Other than that, she will also be seen in the comedy movie Lisa Frankenstein and the upcoming biopic Winner.
Dia DipasupilStephanie Hsu
It has been an incredible year for Stephanie Hsu, thanks to her role in the comedy-drama Everything Everywhere All at Once, which has earned her a lot of critical acclaim. We can also see Stephanie in the upcoming series Poker Face, set to debut on the streaming service Peacock on January 26. Taylor HillHalle Bailey
Halle Bailey is taking the lead role in one of 2023's most hotly-anticipated films, The Little Mermaid, and we couldn't be more excited for her! Speaking about injecting an "essence" of herself into the iconic Disney role, Halle told Entertainment Weekly: "My hair, for example — incorporating my locs into the red hair was something that was really special to me. The outfit, the fins, everything. It's just amazing. I'm just grateful that I've been able to take the essence of me and mix the two." While a film on such a scale may be just enough to handle during one year, we can also expect her to catch her in the musical period drama, The Color Purple alongside Fantasia and Taraji P. Henson.
Amy SussmanHunter Schafer
Okay, we all know and love Jules from HBO's Euphoria, but she is truly set to have her own moment in the spotlight as the lead role in 2023's Hunger Games prequel, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. While the original movies turned Jennifer Lawrence into a bonafide star, we can only expect the same for Hunter.
Axelle/Bauer-GriffinJessica Henwick
Surrey-born Jessica Henwick already has an impressive set of acting credentials, including Game of Thrones, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Matrix Resurrections. But it's her upcoming role in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery alongside Daniel Craig and Kate Hudson that is set to propel her to the next stage. She also has two other movies in the works next year - Cuckoo and The Royal Hotel. Despite her emerging success, Jessica recently spoke to GLAMOUR about feeling Imposter Syndrome. "It's definitely been an intense few years. I've had a good run. Netflix has been very good to me. But you never lose that sense of: this is it, it's going to end now. It's going back to that imposter syndrome. I always feel like I'm treading water, just trying to get to the next pit stop."
Jon KopaloffNicola Peltz
Nicola Peltz may have had the year of her life on the personal front thanks to her glamorous wedding to Brooklyn Beckham, but 2023 will most certainly be a fabulous professional affair for the New York-born actress. Nicola will soon star as Dorothy Stratten in the upcoming miniseries, Welcome to Chippendales. And if that isn't enough, the former Bates Motel actress will also be making her directorial debut in the independent drama film Lola James. When recently asked about how her ten-year-old self would view her accomplishments today, Nicola told Grazia: "I don't know, I just have tunnel vision. I just try to work my hardest and then try to get the next job and move on to the next thing. I guess looking back, she'd be happy, but it's hard for me to have that perspective sometimes."
Tristan FewingsStorm Reid
We all know Storm Reid from the popular teen drama Euphoria, playing the little sister of Zendaya's character Rue. But she can also head up a whole movie on her own, as evident in the upcoming thriller, Missing. She will also be seen in the upcoming post-apocalyptic drama series The Last Of Us. Speaking recently about her favourite part of the Marvel universe as the character Mantis, Pom told Collider: "It's just working with James Gunn. He wrote such interesting and layered characters, and I get to play with it and be weird, and I think creating something different, and that's exciting."
Han Myung-GuJennie Ruby Jane
You will already know and love BLACKPINK's Jennie Ruby Jane for her K-pop singing endeavours, but she will soon be making her grand acting debut in Sam Levinson's new HBO drama series The Idol alongside Lily Rose-Depp and the Weeknd. It takes a certain level of skill to make it as a child star. And 12-year-old Frankie Corio has already got everyone talking, thanks to her portrayal of Sophie in the film AfterSun, which recently won big at Best British Independent Film Awards. We're sure that Frankie will soon have an onslaught of movie offers coming her way, so she is definitely on our radar as one to watch.
Gareth CattermoleYasmin Finney
Yasmin Finney's breakthrough this year was her role as trans teenager, Elle Argent in the Netflix series Heartstopper. Yasmin, who is trans herself, spoke candidly about the importance of the role, telling PinkNews and The Upcoming: "It really, really, really is such a rare story that we get a trans character that doesn't delve into gender dysphoria, or depression, or bullying, but just the positive – the friendship, the chosen family, the moving from an all boys' school to an all girls' school. Just everything that is natural about being trans is highlighted, and I'm just so happy to be that positive representation that we've needed for so many years." We can next look forward to Yasmin taking on the role of Rose - the Doctor's loyal companion in the upcoming 60th anniversary of Doctor Who.
David M. BenettCharmaine Bingwa
It's not every day that one of your first big Hollywood movie gigs earns you Oscar buzz, but Charmaine Bingwa is definitely on the road to award season acclaim thanks to her role as Dodienne in the action thriller, Emancipation, which also stars Will Smith. But what else can we expect from the actress who was the first person of colour to be awarded Australia's Heath Ledger Scholarship during its ten-year duration? Definitely big things again for Charmaine!
David M. BenettRosy McEwen
Fun fact about Rosy McEwan - the actress made it to the final two for the role of 2007's Atonement when a casting director came to her school at the age of thirteen. The part eventually went to Oscar-nominated Saoirse Ronan. Now, it's finally Rosy's time to shine. She recently starred in the drama Blue Jean, which earned her the Best Lead Performance gong at the British Independent Film Awards, which undoubtedly cements her status as the one to watch for the future. We can also soon see her starring alongside Emmy-award winner Julia Garner in the 1960s horror-thriller, Apartment 7A.
