If the past year has left you sick to death of daily walks (raises hand), we've got just the ticket. Vibrant, print-adorned adult roller skates are the must-have accessory of the season, and we're really not mad about it. Yep: the retro passtime of roller skating is genuinely cool again, with thanks to the host of impossibly coordinated women twisting and twirling their way through their local parks on TikTok. And tonnes of in-line skates are sold out as a result.

It was LA-based actress and dancer Ana Coto who was originally credited for kicking the whole thing off. She began sharing videos of herself roller-skating on TikTok back in the first lockdown, the most-viewed of which saw her whizzing down the street during golden hour to J.Los "Jenny From The Block". Everyone wanted a piece of the effortlessly-cool pie.

It's an unsurprising resurgence, if you think about it. 18 months' worth of lockdowns have seen a refreshed interest in tonnes old old-school pastimes that made us feel nostalgic and comforted - from jigsaw puzzling and tie-dye to baking and embroidery. But unlike the rest, roller skating keeps you fit, gives your mental health a boost and gets you out in the sunshine in one fell swoop. Or cloud, as the case may be.
