Victoria Beckham's Heirloom Fashion

When the news broke that Victoria and David Beckham were finally expecting their longed-for girl, our minds flipped straight to one thing: the incredible designer wardrobe that she's bound to have handed down to her by doting Mummy B. Here are all the standout pieces from Victoria Beckham's wardrobe that we most like to imagine baby girl Beckham will inherit - and why
Rex FeaturesHermès Birkin bag
When spotted: With everything, all the time
Why it’s so amazing: Hermès’ most coveted bag, the Birkin costs over £4,000 – and that’s just for your basic leather version, so any girl would be thrilled to find one of these beauties in her trousseau. One! But there’ll be no such meagre pickings for baby girl Beckham. Mummy’s love of the Birkin is well-documented and her collection reportedly numbers triple figures. She is rarely seen without one dangling from the crook of her elbow and appears to have one in every size, colour, skin and finish under the sun.

When spotted: At the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, April 2011
Why it’s so amazing: Not only was this flower-adorned accessory worn at the most high-profile event of the millennium, it was custom-made by Philip Treacy, one of the UK’s finest milliners, for the occasion. It almost didn’t happen though, as Treacy’s design assistant has confessed: “We were still working on Victoria’s hat right up until the last moment before it left the studio, at 7am [on the day of the wedding]. We made the hat around what she had chosen to wear. She brought her own label VB dress with her shoes. Philip came up with concepts inspired by her dress fabric but unfortunately it had to be remade several times, at considerable cost.” Definitely a keeper, then.
PA PhotosMarc Jacobs hearts dress
When spotted: The CFDA Awards 2008
Why it’s so amazing: In 2008, Victoria Beckham made one of her first – and most impressive – forays into the world of high fashion at the prestigious Council Of Fashion Designers Of America Awards. She was the poster girl for Marc Jacobs’ collection at the time, and turned this singular triumph into a triple whammy of blows against the door of fashion’s inner sanctum by turning up with the designer on her arm and looking drop dead gorgeous in this love-heart design of his. As far as baby girl Beckham’s future wardrobe goes, that’s the make-jaws-drop LBD sorted.
PA PhotosBalmain blazer
When spotted: At a New York Fashion Week event in February 2010
Why it’s so amazing: A smart black blazer is a must in any style-savvy girl’s wardrobe. For baby girl Beckham, however, that blazer is bound to be the Rolls Royce of its kind, from the house of Balmain – identifiable as such by that iconic, razor-sharp shoulder shape. Created during the label’s glory days under the creative directorship of the now-ejected Christophe Decarnin, this style staple is bound to stand the test of time.
Rex FeaturesGiambattista Valli ‘angel’ dress
When spotted: At the launch of the Beckhams’ Signature fragrance at Manchester’s Harvey Nichols in August 2008
Why it’s so amazing: You may recall that VB got a lot of critical flack for this dress – which is actually a classic shift, with a feathery panel at the back – but we have to confess, we like it. In fact, we’re getting misty-eyed already as we envisage baby girl Beckham as a teenager, slinging it on with a halo from the dressing up box, getting ready for a fancy dress party... Well, that’s what we would’ve done if it had belonged to our mum, anyway.
PA PhotosRoland Mouret Moon dress
When spotted: At the LA Galaxy stadium, July 2007
Why it’s so amazing: A few years ago, the universe went bonkers for Roland Mouret’s Galaxy dress – a structured design with a peplum waist hailed as the definitive dress design of its era, which was a worldwide sell-out and worn by just about every A-lister you’d care to name (and, yes, Carol Vordeman too). How could it be topped? Only by its successor, the Moon dress, being sported in hot pink by Victoria Beckham for her first public appearance with hubby David after he’d joined LA Galaxy and they’d moved stateside, of course. Let’s hope that baby girl Beckham also gets that pink ostrich-skin Birkin to go with.
Rex FeaturesVictoria Beckham travel bag
When spotted: On the street in New York, September 2010
Why it’s so amazing: Baby girl Beckham is bound to share in Victoria’s jet-set lifestyle, so she’ll need some great hand luggage in her locker. Fortunately, mummy’s designed a little luxe something of her very own that’s bound to fit the bill: this calf skin, top-handle structured bag from the debut Victoria Beckham spring 2011 accessories collection (which proved so popular, it’s already beome one of the line’s heritage styles). The spec is impressive: light-gold hardware, stitched raised trims, four internal zip-fastening pockets, fully lined in camel leather... And will double neatly as a handbag for days when one just can’t bear the sight of another Birkin.
Rex FeaturesRoberto Cavalli gold two-piece
When spotted: On stage during the Return Of The Spice Girls world tour in 2007
Why it’s so amazing: The fashion world got into a flap when the Spices announced their intention to tour in 2007 (post-watershed of Victoria Beckham’s becoming a bonafide style icon), with Donatella Versace reportedly in the frame to direct their stage looks. In the end it was Roberto Cavalli who got the gig – and Victoria who landed this fierce and fabulous gold bustier and stirrup pants duo which, rightly, belongs not only in fashion history but in music history, too.
Big PicturesLoewe suede trench coat
When spotted: At LAX, September 2009
Why it’s so amazing: Now that’s what we call a flying outfit! Valentino bag and YSL heels aside, what we really hope baby girl Beckham inherits from this look is the incredible grey suede trench coat by luxe leather label Loewe. With so many amazing VB dresses at her disposal, she’ll need something stylish – and sensible – to pop on over the top. It’ll just be a bonus if she’s as drawn to military styling as her mum is.
WennJonathan Saunders vest
When spotted: Out and about in LA with sons Romeo and Cruz January 2010
Why it’s so amazing: For someone who’s hardly known for dressing down, La Beckham certainly loves her skinny jeans. Chances are, baby girl will follow in mummy’s stiletto-clad footsteps – and what better to pair your denims with when strutting around LA than a statement vest? We’re hoping that VB has held onto this lush version, by fellow Brit Jonathan Saunders. Surely neon will never go out of fashion?
Rex FeaturesLeather gloves, designer unknown
When spotted: Out and about in New York, December 2008
Why they’re so amazing: Victoria Beckham wears a leather glove like no other. While we only tend to jam our hands into a pair because it’s so cold our fingers are going numb, VB regularly styles a pair into her look, as in this demure take on the 50s trend. While the gloves themselves are rarely, if ever, given a fashion credit, by the time baby girl Beckham’s manicured mitts are big enough to enjoy mummy’s vast collection they’ll all be vintage anyway – which is, after all, the coolest label for leather.
PA PhotosAntonio Berardi heel-less boots
When spotted: At the New York launch of Beckham Signature in September 2008
Why they're so amazing: These £3,000+ OTK latex boots take fashion fierceness to a whole new level; VB literally stopped traffic when she first stepped out in them. But are they really as logic-defying as they appear? Absolutely not, says their creator, Antonio Berardi. "They are perfectly balanced," he explains. "When the girls come for fittings, they look a bit daunted, but by the end they say it's just like wearing a regular shoe. They are graceful and there is a ballerina nature about them. Having a heel is really just psychological." When baby girl Beckham hits the inevitable teenage boots + mini skirt fash phase, she's going to blow her mates out of the water with these.
PA PhotosBalenciaga checked coat
When spotted: Arriving at Heathrow airport, March 2009
Why it's so amazing: We simply can't imagine a future where the 60s don't remain hugely influential in the style stakes. This collarless Balenciaga coat ticks all the trend boxes, and will be a boon for baby girl Beckham's trans-seasonal wardrobe. Love!
Rex FeaturesChanel Kelly bag
When spotted: At Katie Holmes’ debut performance in All My Sons on Broadway, November 2008
Why it’s so amazing: One: it’s a Chanel bag. Two: it's perfectly proportioned for evening. Three: baby girl Beckham won’t get to have David Beckham – aka daddy – as her date the whole time and, seeing as he’s pretty much the best piece of arm candy around, she’ll need something equally gorgeous and lust-worthy like this to make up for it. Lucky mummy, scoring the double here!
Rex FeaturesGiorgio Armani dressing gown dress
When spotted: At the 2008 Met Ball
Why it’s so amazing: VB survived cruel comparisons to Cruella De Ville in this ensemble; we think she looks rather chic. Hand-beaded, there’s no denying this stunning vintage gown would be a pretty potent addition to the box marked ‘red carpet’ in baby girl Beckham’s heirloom collection – and, should the occasion never arise for her to wear it, it could always double as some seriously bling loungewear.
Rex FeaturesMiu Miu sparkle dress
When spotted: At Net-a-Porter’s 10th birthday party in 2010
Why it’s so amazing: Victoria tends to have two fashion modes: glamorous and off-duty. Seeing her in a less-than-a-thousand-kilowatt dress for a formal engagement is rarer than, well, being handed a 100-strong collection of Birkins. So we were delighted to see her rocking this flirty Miu Miu number when she turned out in support of fellow British fashion entrepreneur Natalie Massenet – and it’ll no doubt be an equally powerful addition to baby girl Beckham’s heirloom chest too.
Rex FeaturesBalmain bleached biker jeans
When spotted: Shopping in Milan, April 2009
Why they're so amazing: Baby girl Beckham should have no shortage of jeans in her hand-me-down locker – after all, mummy does have her own denim brand (DVB, fashion fans). We particularly love this biker pair by Balmain, though; we trust that VB's keeping them safe so that when her teenage daughter hits the 'rebellious' button, she won't have to mess up her mani by bleaching her own.
Big PicturesChristian Louboutin heels
When spotted: With everything, all the time
Why they're so amazing: In the world of Victoria Beckham, Christian Louboutin heels are the footwear equivalent of the Hermès Birkin; a once-in-a-lifetime kind of special to us mere mortals, but every day wardrobe fayre for her Poshness. Lucky baby girl Beckham will never be wanting of a red sole to flash – unless, of course, cruel fate dictates that her shoe size is different to mummy's.
Rex FeaturesAlexander McQueen optical illusion dress
When spotted: Out for dinner in March 2009
Why they're so amazing: Anything by the genius that is Alexander McQueen is to be revered, and Victoria did this structured monochrome shift justice by styling it with simple back Miu Miu pumps and a demure headband so it could shine. A classic shape and colourway, it's got 'forever piece' stamped all over it. No, not literally – though it does bear more than a passing resemblance to a Magic Eye canvas...
PA Photos/www.paphotos.comVictoria Beckham dress
When spotted: London Fashion Week, September 2009
Why it's so amazing: We were spoilt for choice in choosing just one Victoria Beckham dress design – as, doubtless, will baby girl Beckham be, when she's old enough to take advantage of mummy's impressive archive. “I always wanted to be a fashion designer,” Victoria confessed to the press as her debut collection was unveiled in September 2008. “Then along came the Spice Girls which opened a lot of doors for me. And, let's be honest, closed a lot. But those days are over. I was never going to be the world’s best singer, but I hope I can be a good designer.” We think it's safe to say she's acheived that – as this beautifully-dyed silk mini, so far removed from VB's usual hard-edged style, beautifully demonstrates.
