Eclipse On-Set Secrets

A sneak peek behind the scenes of the third Twilight flick, with to-die-for exclusive snaps

An on-set source revealed that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart waited for each other when leaving work every day: “If he wrapped before her, he would wait for her before going home.” Aww.

Peter Facinelli – AKA Dr Carlisle Cullen – revealed that the guys all had work-out competitions to see who was the fittest: “We had this kind of unspoken competition between all of us...Not so much to get buff, my character doesn't need to look like Kellan Lutz's character (Emmett Cullen), but we had to be fit to do the fight training. Everyone was always in the gym - whenever you wanted to find somebody you just headed to the gym…I remember going down to the gym and the elevator doors opened, and Kellan was on the floor doing push-ups waiting for the elevator. I just put my hands in the air and said, 'Okay, you win', and went back to my hotel!"

Who knew that Rosalie had such a caring side? Nikki Reid, who plays the coldest of the Cullens, became on-set babysitter for newcomers Bryce Dallas Howard’s son, Theo (3). “She was like a second mum. The other day Theo actually said ‘I miss Nikki!’ I was like, ‘I know, honey. I miss her too.’”

Taylor Lautner was left in agony after a particular scene in the movie. No, not a fight scene, or a particularly bold stunt, but after carrying teeny Kristen Stewart across the set! “There’s a scene where I’m carrying (Kristen), and it’s also, like, four pages of dialogue. We actually had plans, a rig that was basically going to carry her, and I was just going to pretend that I was carrying her,” explains Taylor. “We got there on the day, and the rig didn’t look very natural. They were like, ‘What are we going to do?’ and I’m like, ‘I’ll just carry her. She’s like, what, 110 pounds? It’s no big deal!’ We filmed that scene all day long. Did the wide shot, did my close-up, did her close-up, the back shot, everything. It was so hard… It was painful.” He is human after all!

Kristen had to wear a wig for Eclipse after cropping her locks for her last flick, The Runaways. However, K-Stew’s faux mane wasn’t exactly co-operative at first. Word has it the hairpiece went askew during some scenes, which test audiences noticed, forcing director David Slade to reshoot some scenes. We wonder if it was during any particularly steamy love scenes with Edward…

Peter Facinelli has revealed that Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen) and Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen) have rotated hosting trivia evenings for the cast since filming began. They’ve even played the Twilight board game! “It’s mostly questions about the movies. We get stuff wrong. It’s really sad. But it’s fun when we get together. Rob and Jackson will pull out their guitars, and Kellan will pull out his kazoo!” For the record, a kazoo is a wind instrument.

Bryce Dallas Howard revealed that R-Patz chipped a tooth on set, but not in the way you may think: “He was like, 'Oh, I have to go to the dentist.' And I was like, 'Oh no, what happened? Just a check-up?' And he was like, 'No, I chipped a tooth.' I was like, 'How?' And he was like, 'Flossing.' Who does that?!”

There was an on-set Twitter war! Billy Burke (Charlie Swan), Peter Facinelli and David Slade were all battling it out on set to see who could get the most followers. Peter eventually won, and when he finally achieved 1,000,000 followers, Robert Pattinson sent a tweet via Peter’s profile, saying: “Hi, it’s Rob…this is my first and last tweet. My dad made me do it.”

Edward and Jacob get physical in more than one scene during Eclipse, but Rob found it hard to get to grips with Taylor’s ever-growing physique. “I ended up trying to grab him and his shoulder was too big to get a grip on,” says Rob, laughing, “so we did another take and I tried in any way I could to grab onto him, and I could never do it, so eventually it became, sort of, holding on to his t-shirt and flailing about!”

Rob hired celebrity personal trainer Harley Pasternak, who had worked with Lady Gaga, to help him get in shape for Eclipse. During breaks in filming, Rob would do a five-minute jog, circuit training and five minutes of skipping rope. The hottie also revealed that he took up the treadmill, but for different reasons: “I was always running with a kind of limp-skip [in the first two flicks], so I got them to film me as I jogged to improve my form.”

The stars are all looking forward to the third installment of the Twilight saga. Taylor Lautner promised a "darker" film, Kristen Stewart said the love triangle will be further intensified, Rob is looking forward to seeing Bell’s treachery (“that’ll be a good scene”), whilst the Cullens are all excited to be kicking some ass!

Taylor Lautner said: “Filming the tent scene was really cool, ‘cause I’ve been waiting for that scene forever. Eclipse was my favourite book and that was my favourite scene from the book, so that was a lot of fun. It was pretty much shot as written, which was great.” We CAN’T wait for that scene!

Nikki Reed can't wait for fans to witness Rosalie’s tragic back-story: “I shot an entire sequence in the 1930s," she explained. “And it's intercut between a really amazing scene and moment that I have with Bella. I think the fans will like that. I think they want to see the Cullens' history. It gives me the opportunity to explain myself."

Both Vanessa Hudgens and Miranda Kerr – fiancée of Orlando Bloom – were considered for the role of Leah Clearwater, before Julia Jones was cast.

R-Patz, an accomplished musician, shared songwriting tips with the rest of the cast. Michael Welch – who plays Mike – revealed that after a Chinese meal “we all went back to Rob’s super-deluxe apartment and he played music for us. Then it was just me and Rob, and he was giving me some songwriting advice!. Rob told me, ‘work from the inside out. Start with an emotion and vocalize that feeling.’ If you listen to his music, it’s clear that’s what he does. He is a very talented young man.”

Taylor’s favourite way to pass the time between takes is (American) football. “Anytime you were bored on set, if you found Taylor, he would always have a football. It was great playing with him,” reveals fellow wolf-boy Tyson Houseman (Quil).

Ashley Greene is keen on displaying Alice Cullen's skills. "I'm really excited to see my fight sequence," she said. "There's some playful moments between Jasper and Alice that I'd like to see. They take parts of your character and put it into your fight sequence, so mine's kind of a Cirque du Soleil-ish sequence, so I want to see it."

Tom Felton – who plays Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter franchise - and Step Up star Channing Tatum were both considered for the role of Riley, eventually given to Xavier Samuel.

The cast were constantly beaten up during the filming of Eclipse. With an epic battle sequence looming, the flick’s amped-up action spelled a whole new set of occupational hazards for the stars. “If I didn’t go home with a bruise, I didn’t feel like I’d put in a good day’s work,” said Peter Facinelli

Dakota Fanning found it strange teaming up with Kristen again on the set: “During the summer, when we were doing The Runaways, we both had in the back of our minds that she would have to go do Eclipse pretty much right away. I came a month or two later. And, it was so weird, just seeing each other in different costumes and being different people because we got so used to seeing each other as Joan Jett and Cherie Currie, especially with her having the short black hair. She has green eyes in real life, so seeing her with brown eyes and long hair again was so weird.”
