Twisted shirts: 13 reworked styles to see you through the new season
It used to be that officewear was a dreary and never-changing area of the fashion world that never offered much in the way of style.
However, for autumn/winter 2016 the humble shirt is the understated champion of the season. Formerly a tired office staple, the shirt was reworked by Ellery, Vetements, Stella McCartney, Jacquemus and Marques Almeida - all of whom played with its proportions and twisted its body parts. We're talking extra long sleeves, extreme cuffs, split sleeves, flared sleeves and knotted fronts - no longer is this an item just for minimalists.
Whether you want to go oversized and play to androgyny, or go down the preppy route with a gingham style, there's a lot to choose from this season. Dressy versions can be found with off-the-shoulder variations - available both on the high street and from the luxury stores.
So how do you wear it in a modern way? Tuck oversized styles into jeans a la Vetements or wear as a loose shirt dress. Alternatively, give your slip dress extra mileage and wear a shirt underneath. At Prada, models wore shirts cinched in by open corsets, although a wide belt would have the same effect.
