The best celebrity manicures of 2020 that we're totally copying
If there's one rule most award-show attendees follow, it's this one: Even if there's no chance you're going to be photographed holding a trophy of some sort, make sure your nails look like you're ready to win something. That's why the celebrities who showed up to Sunday night's Screen Actors Guild Awards — whether nominated, presenting, or simply enjoying the event — had some of the prettiest manicures of the season.
With our eagle eyes and a little help from the nail artists who created the looks, we found some of the best nail looks on on the SAG red carpet. And if one thing is clear from what we've observed, it's that nails of all lengths are enjoying an array of colours. In fact, some of the shortest nails wore some of the boldest shades, like Gwendoline Christie's gown-matching black and Helena Bonham Carter's cornflower blue. Meanwhile, nude hues were upgraded with some sparkle, as seen on Jennifer Lopez and Joey King.

Stranger Things star Natalia Dyer's gold dress was the jumping-off point for her beautiful nail art. The long, gently pointed nails were painted in the deepest possible bordeaux colour and topped off with random flecks of gold foil, creating an abstract-art masterpiece.

Jennifer Garner also matched her gown, going for a classic red on shorter nails. Deborah Lippmann herself painted Garner's nails with her own Gel Lab Pro Nail Polish in the beloved shade Lady Is a Tramp.

Manicurist Thuy Nguyen gave nominee Joey King a fresh, simple manicure that actually includes three different shades. "I used Essie’s Mademoiselle + Sugar Daddy + Going Steady. One coat of each," she wrote on Instagram. "I get very excited layering colours together to get that perfect look and Essie provides the perfect palette!!"

Jennifer Lopez was feeling a shimmering nude mani, too, but manicurist Tom Bachik wanted to make give it an even more glistening finish so it could hold its own next to Harry Winston rings. "We went with a semi sheer nude topped with a champagne shimmer for the perfect amount of sparkle," he wrote on Instagram.

Tom Bachik gave Margot Robbie a nude manicure, too, but cut out all the shimmer. The Chanel shade she's wearing is a nearly perfect match for her own skin tone, and the shorter, straight-across shape makes this a manicure she can easily keep wearing until the next big Hollywood event.
