The Obamas are launching their own Netflix shows, here's what we know so far
Netflix has truly been knocking it out of the park recently with their new releases. What with true crime documentary The Disappearance of Madeleine McCannn, the second instalment of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and THAT surprise documentary from Beyoncé, we've been spoilt for incredible TV content. Prepare to clear your TV queue though, because the Obamas are set to make their streaming debut.
Barack and Michelle have been pretty quiet since leaving the White House, but it turns out they've been super busy developing their own production company, Higher Ground Productions, which we're already huge fans of purely for its name. In even better news, they've struck a deal with the streaming giant, blessing us with a whole new slate of programs.
There are seven passion projects in the pipeline - four series, two documentaries and one feature film - and by the looks of things, they're making good on their word to bring more diverse storytelling to our screens.

Lovers of period dramas will be no doubt be interested in the "upstairs/downstairs" high-fashion drama Bloom , which explores the "barriers faced by women and by people of colour in an era marked by hurdles but also tremendous progress" in post-World War II New York.
History buffs will also want to look out for American Factory, the Sundance award-winning documentary which tells the story of a Chinese billionaire who takes over an abandoned General Motors factory in the Midwest and hires thousands of American workers.
Then there's a fascinating biopic about the abolitionist Frederick Douglass, an anthology series Overlooked, about the stories of remarkable people who never made it into the New York Times' obituaries section, and a feature length documentary Crisp Camp, about a summer camp for disabled teenagers.
Then there's a half-hour family series Listen to Your Vegetables & Eat Your Parents, aimed at preschoolers, which calls upon Michelle Obama’s advocacy for healthy eating during her time in the White House.
Lastly, reality show lovers will want to look out for the nonfiction series Fifth Risk which chronicles the "unheralded work done by everyday heroes guiding our government and safeguarding our nation".

"We created Higher Ground to harness the power of storytelling,” the former president said in a statement. "Touching on issues of race and class, democracy and civil rights, and much more, we believe each of these productions won’t just entertain, but will educate, connect, and inspire us all."
"We love this slate because it spans so many different interests and experiences, yet it’s all woven together with stories that are relevant to our daily lives," the former first lady added.
"We think there’s something here for everyone—moms and dads, curious kids, and anyone simply looking for an engaging, uplifting watch at the end of a busy day. We can’t wait to see these projects come to life — and the conversations they’ll generate."
There's no word yet on release dates for any of the programs, but it's expected that most of the projects will be rolled out over the next two years. We'll be updating this page as we hear more news!
