New York Fashion Week: 11 talking points

New York Fashion Week is drawing to a close, and already we've had plenty of food for thought - from new fashion trends, key colours and accessories to talking points that dominated the FROW.
We've compiled a guide of the most buzzy conversation starters overheard at the NY shows to give you an comprehensive insider guide of what we'll all be wearing next winter:
IndigitalThe talking point: See it, buy now
Following news that Burberry and Tom Ford are to sell their next collections immediately after their catwalk shows, Michael Kors adopted the same idea – making several key catwalk items available to buy straight away. The industry are all wondering what this means for the traditional fashion calendar and how long Fashion Weeks will exist for.
IndigitalThe catwalk trend: Rebellious streetwear
The most prevailing of New York Fashion Week trends was designers’ newfound affinity for streetwear – a testament to the influence of French label Vetements, who have long been championing urban cool. This season, it started with Rihanna, who showed hoodie dresses and thigh-high boots, before being seen at Alexander Wang and his gang of model punks decked out in oversized slogan jumpers, beanie hats and leather skirt with cannabis prints. DKNY looked to 90s girl bands as its muse, while Rag & Bone also celebrated an urban sensibility.

There were two new labels that created a buzz among the NY FROWs this season - Sies Marjan and Beaufille. Sies Marjan made its catwalk debut with a refreshingly bright collection featuring interesting cuts and couture-like techniques, while Beaufille – helmed by sisters Parris and Chloe Gordon – built on their boho meets rock ‘n’ roll sensibility.
Getty ImagesThe FROW: Kanye West
To call it a FROW seems an understatement – in his typically understated fashion, Kanye West hosted his latest Yeezy presentation in a stadium. The huge-scale affair attracted the full Kardashian clan, Kim, Kendall, Kylie, Caitlyn, Khloe, Kourtney and baby North – who wore a bejeweled choker, a faux fur coat and bored expression. Other attendees included Anna Wintour, Gigi and Bella Hadid and Carine Roitfeld.
IndigitalThe face: Yasmin Wijnaldum
Catwalk models are often characterised by their angular faces and unusual features, but rising model star Yasmin Wijnaldum is traditionally beautiful, with full lips, big blue eyes and a serene look. Expect to see more of her at the London shows.

Temperatures in NY hit -18 Celsius this weekend and the fashion pack donned their warmest Canada Goose coats and Sorel snow boots to contend with the Baltic chill. Everyone apart from Gigi Hadid, who deserves some sort of bravery award for this outfit.
IndigitalThe colour: Autumnal
Next winter’s colour palette will be rich in autumnal shades such as tans, bronze, burgundy and olive green – as seen at Victoria Beckham, Proenza Schouler, Altuzarra, Coach, Creatures of the Wind and The Row.
GettyThe object of desire: Gucci block heels
As seen on Harper Beckham, one of the chicest of New York’s FROWers. A practical update on last season’s Gucci furry slingbacks.
IndigitalThe accessory: The return of the heel
With a few exceptions (Victoria Beckham and Rag & Bone), it looks as if we’re moving away from flats to high heels. We say this with a heavy heart. Rodarte delivered patchwork ankle boots with stiletto heels, Jason Wu did slingback courts with bow detailing and Derek Lam offered lace-up pointed booties.

Catwalk trend: Shearling coats
An equivalent to shaggy faux fur, shearling coats will be big come next season. Lacoste, Kate Spade, Proenza Schouler, Tome and Banana Republic all showcasd varying versions.
IndigitalThe new hemline: The midi
It’s time to cover up ladies – autumn/winter 2016-17 will be all about wearing skirts and dresses of a sophisticated midi length. Victoria Beckham has been a long-term fan of this look, and now Proenza Schouler, Creatures of the Wind, Jason Wu and Prabal Gurung.
