New York Fashion Week Trends Guide

Glamour Senior Fashion Features Editor at Large Katherine Ormerod braved the freezing NY temperatures to report on the latest trends and biggest talking points from New York Fashion Week.
Here, she presents her findings:
IndigitalCatwalk Trend: Sparkle Sirens
After seasons of clinical and athletic influences, razzle dazzle is back in town. From Rodarte’s wondrous liquid Swarovski dresses to J.Crew’s multi-coloured sequins, ritz and glitz are back in the spotlight.
PA PhotosThe Set
Hands down the set of the week award goes to Tommy Hilfiger whose varsity American football stadium came complete with Tommy helmets, a re-run screen and play clipboard. Go Team Tommy!

The Beckhams vs. The Kardashians. We snapped pics of them both.
IndigitalCatwalk Trend: Off-kilter Uptown
Several labels in New York looked at the city’s elegant aesthetic through a crazy cat lady lens. Part Capote’s swans, part Grey Gardens, the look encompassed uneven hems, knotted and twisted details and eveningwear for day. Look to Tome and Thakoon for pointers.

The Drinks
Our favourite tipples of the week were the chilli cocktail at the Banana Republic launch, Hotel Americano's Bloody Marys and the Polo Bar's margaritas. Well someone has to give them a taste, right?
IndigitalCatwalk Trend: Revolution
Punk anarchy, gothic staples and a serious amount of anti-establishment attitude were the hallmarks of New York’s youth focused lines from Alexander Wang to Philip Lim to Marc by Marc Jacobs. This new generation will be dressed in slogans, stomping boots and punk strapping, ready to protest.
PA PhotosFROW trend: Lapping
Forget squeezing on to a bench – this season it was all about sitting on laps. Rita Ora made the point well at Tommy Hilfiger where she perched on boyfriend Ricky Hilfiger’s knee. While anyone sitting behind you will have their view quite seriously compromised, it’s certainly an option for late-comers a la Rita.

Snowmageddon
There was no escaping the frigidly cold weather this season – with lows of -18 C, its little wonder that the fash pack came to reassemble an Eskimo village. While there was a competition over who’s hotel room was coldest, we also spotted a fair share of bare legs and midriffs leading to the conclusion that fashion people are one sandwich short of a picnic when it comes to weather-appropriate dressing.
IndigitalThe Unlikely Style Icon
The 118 man by way of The Royal Tenenbaums became one of the stand out style muses of the season. Lacoste's retro 70s style collection riffed on founder Rene's name, oversized teddy bear coats and sweat headbands.

The One to Watch
Stuart Vevers refresh of American heritage brand continues to go from strength to strength each season. For A/W 2015/16 he has come up with the most covetable shearling coats in recent memory and a host of totes guaranteed to be accessorising a blogger near you.

Street Trends
One of the biggest street trends of the season was the silk scarf. Most were wearing in a triangle point at the front then wrapped around the neck and knotted. Fast-track to seventies chic.

The Food
The table to bag this season was at Ralph Lauren’s spanking new Polo bar. Packed to the rafters with the great and good (when we were there we spotted Drew Barrymore and Olivia Palermo as well as a table occupied by the Lauren family), the bar looks set to become and institution. If you find yourself in town go for the breaded olives and corn beef sandwich – reportedly Ralph’s favourite. And make sure you check out the loos.
