Our Fashion Director's faves: Natalie Hartley talks through her stand-out Met Gala looks
The Met Gala is the biggest night in fashion, so all the looks from last night's 2017 ball deserve a once-over by a well-trained fashion eye. Here, GLAMOUR's Fashion Director Natalie Hartley gives the lowdown on her favourite looks, and who she thinks nailed the theme best...
This spring the Met Ball was an homage to Comme Des Garcon. Quite a tough theme. Huge shapes and colours are what this design house revels in, but the wearability factor is pretty tough. These are the celebrities who managed to pull it off without drowning in a sea of ruffles, colour and size:
If anyone can pull off Comme des Garçons it has to be her and this outfit epitomises the brand's signature look. Construction and shape are key to Comme des Garçons and although this look is extremely creative it still feels like she is wearing the dress not the other way round. I love the choice of red shoes - you really are looking her outfit up and down.
I love the simplicity of this outfit which works with such a strong bold colour. The dress feels even coat-like and although such a large shape can be unflattering, she helps balance it with a bare leg and strappy shoes.
Taking the puffa trend to new levels. This is such a fun idea and padding is something we have seen the designer work with over the years. With many designers stamping their authority over this trend to spin off many an idea, why not add a trail to your coat and wear it to the Met ball. It’s the new take on a tux and I love it!
Red is all over the catwalks for AW17 and I love this outfit. The silhouette is masked out with shades of red meaning it's still flattering despite being so oversized. I love the pairing of a flat boot with this, it is effortless and fits the theme perfectly. This is my kind of outfit, comfort all the way.
I love the colour blocking of her outfit, what a way to pull off a simple white dress with clashing coloured accessories. All of the elements combine perfectly, and the pointy thigh boot gives this romantic dress an edge.
