A Very Mulberry Summer

Mulberry's Emma Hill talks holidays, style advice & fashion icons

Can't get enough of Mulberry? We're with you! Find out what Emma Hill had to say when we caught up with her ahead of her summer holidays...

What is your favourite holiday spot & why?
One of my favourite places has to be Tulum; it’s the most sublime place to unwind. The beaches stretch on for miles and miles, with Mayan temples overlooking crystal blue waters.
What's your go-to holiday wardrobe?
Easy separates that can be worn for any occasion, and a great pair of sandals for evening. I also always make sure I have a pair of versatile flat shoes with me, for sightseeing, or chasing after my son!
Along those lines, any tips for summer packing?
I try to be organized and remember good sun cream and a new book to get into on the beach. At the moment I never leave the house without my iPad either, it’s great for travelling - it entertains my son on the plane, and me too!

Tell us about your bag collection on holiday– what’s your ideal Mulberry travel bag?
I used to be the queen of mismatched luggage, but now I have a Scotchgrain Mulberry set and it’s great – lightweight, hardwearing and good to spot on the baggage carousel!
What’s your favourite piece from the new collection?
The new Suffolk bag, and if I had to choose it would be in the Pheasant Green Ostrich.
GoRunwayWhat’s your favourite Mulberry memory?
Receiving a CBE from HRH The Queen in November was a really lovely and very unexpected honour. I felt like I was accepting it on behalf of the whole of Mulberry, as a reflection of what the business as a whole had achieved over the last few years.
What has been the most rewarding moment of your career at Mulberry?
So much - seeing women carrying or wearing our designs, when the last model leaves the catwalk at the end of a show, when we open a new store, they are all milestones of my career.
GoRunwayThe Mulberry girl in 3 words?
She appreciates understated luxury, is quietly confident and enjoys fashion but never takes herself too seriously. Sorry that wasn’t three words!
Who are your style icons and why?
That’s so hard to answer- over the years there have been lots of people who have had great style for their time. David Bowie, Vivienne Westwood, Kate Moss… also I have a huge respect for how the Queen carries and presents herself, such a true sense of understated elegance.
GoRunwayBest style advice?
Go with your heart and embrace what you love – no-one can judge you for that.
