Our favourite movie duos

Some co-stars just can't get enough of working with each other and make movie-after-movie together. Here, we chart our favourite on-screen twosomes based on their films and their on-screen chemistry - who are your winners?
Getty ImagesKristen Stewart & Jesse Eisenberg
Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg have starred in three films (so far) together. Kristen was in the midst of the Twilight madness when they first teamed up for indie flick Adventureland. Then they both appeared in action comedy American Ultra, followed by Woody Allen's Café Society which hit cinemas in 2016.
Rex FeaturesMeg Ryan & Tom Hanks
First there was Joe Vs The Volcano in 1990, then there was the unforgettable Sleepless In Seattle and finally in 1998 they shared the screen a third time in a second Nora Ephron-directed flick, You’ve Got Mail. In short, these two were the Nineties rom-com golden couple.
Rex FeaturesKate Hudson & Matthew McConaughey
How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days is a modern classic in the rom-com genre so we were mighty pleased when Kate Hudson and the gorgeous Matthew McConaughey teamed up again for another romantic outing in the oh-so-silly-yet-sweet, Fool’s Gold.
Rex FeaturesRyan Gosling & Emma Stone
When these two first teamed up for Crazy, Stupid, Love, it not only fanned the flames of our eternal passion for Ryan Gosling but also made us sit up and appreciate really great on-screen chemistry. In fact, these two had it in such droves that they teamed up again for crime flick Gangster Squad just months later and then there was the Oscar-winning La La Land this year too. Can't get enough of each other, hey?
Rex FeaturesJulia Roberts & Brad Pitt
Another of the Ocean’s trilogy alumnus is Julia Roberts, who has also teamed up with Brad Pitt outside of the franchise. Remember 2001’s The Mexican?
Rex FeaturesAnne Hathaway & Jake Gyllenhaal
After playing husband and wife in Brokeback Mountain Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal teamed up again for the teary romantic drama-come-comedy Love & Other Drugs and we’ll bet this isn’t the last of these two’s on-screen pair-ups, either.
Rex FeaturesEmma Thompson & Alan Rickman
We love a good thesp-ship and none is more enduring than Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman’s who starred in the Harry Potter series together, as well as Love Actually, Judas Kiss and Sense & Sensibility. Before his untimely death in 2016, the pair certainly racked up some serious screen time together.
Rex FeaturesHelena Bonham Carter & Johnny Depp
Do Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp even make movies without each other anymore? Sure, we know that they’re BFFFs (that stands for Best Family Friends Forever) thanks to sharing an ex-boyfriend and best friend in Tim Burton. Oh, and they’ve starred in five movies together thus far, by the way. Can you name them all?
Rex FeaturesDrew Barrymore & Adam Sandler
Three-time co-stars Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler love doing a rom-com together. First there was the unbeatable The Wedding Singer, then followed 50 First Dates and then the two starred on the big screen together again in 2014 with romantic comedy (natch), Blended.
Rex FeaturesJennifer Lawrence & Bradley Cooper
Our favourite duo of the moment though has to be Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper who have helped steer each other to Oscar brilliance twice in two years. The first collaboration was the brilliant Silver Linings Playbook, swiftly followed by American Hustle, Serena and Joy.
Rex FeaturesKatherine Hepburn & Spencer Tracey
Together for 27 years (although Spencer Tracey remained married throughout) it’s no surprise that these two teamed up on numerous occasions on screen. From their first collaboration in 1942 with Woman Of The Year to their final movie together (and our favourite) Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner in 1967.
Rex FeaturesRobert De Niro & Al Pacino
These two are a funny movie duo not least because their initial on-screen team up in The Godfather II didn’t see them actually film any scenes together. However, some 21 years later, the two made it onto the silver screen together in Heat and again in Righteous Kill in 2008.
Rex FeaturesKate Winslet & Leonardo DiCaprio
Gah! What can you say about these two that hasn’t already been said? So in that case, we’ll just leave you with the facts; Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio first teamed up in 1997 for movie epic, Titanic and again in 2008 for Revolutionary Road and their on-screen chemistry (as well as off-screen friendship) remains pretty much unrivalled.
Rex FeaturesSandra Bullock & Keanu Reeves
We were sad when Keanu Reeves didn’t make a return to the good ship Speed (quite literally) for the sequel but after convincing us of their red hot romance in 1994, we were as pleased as punch when the two teamed up together again in 2006 for romantic fantasy, The Lake House.
Rex FeaturesRichard Gere & Julia Roberts
Ah, the legendary pairing of Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. First there was Pretty Women and then The Runaway Bride - two of the best rom coms of all time, right? The pair are said to have remained close.
Rex FeaturesNicole Kidman & Tom Cruise
Forgetting the off-screen romance and then the big ol’ divorce Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise had, love actually first blossomed between the duo on the set of Days Of Thunder so it was little surprise that after they married the two went on to star in two more films together, including the raunchy Eyes Wide Shut.
Rex FeaturesKathleen Turner & Michael Douglas
After the success of adventure rom-coms Romancing The Stone and The Jewel In The Nile, their co-star Danny DeVito was keen to pair up the husky-voiced Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas again and so directed them as a warring couple in The War Of The Roses in 1989.
Rex FeaturesDakota Fanning & Kristen Stewart
Before sharing the Twilight screen together, did you know that Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning starred in the rock-opic about the band The Runaways in 2010?
Rex FeaturesGeorge Clooney & Brad Pitt
George Clooney and Brad Pitt have been having a major on-screen bromance for years after first starring together in Ocean’s 11 back in 2001. Since then the pair have seen the trilogy through and just a year after filming wrapped on the final Ocean’s installment, the two were back together again in the brilliant Burn After Reading.
Rex FeaturesLauren Bacall & Humphrey Bogart
One of the most legendary Hollywood couples – both on and off-screen – Bacall and Bogart met on the set of To Have And Have Not and married shortly after. The two then starred in three more films together before his death in 1957.
Rex FeaturesElizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton
There are power couples and then there's the union between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. When these two first hooked up on the set of Cleopatra in 1963 it was labelled La Scandale in the papers and even the Vatican waded in on the pair's illicit romance (Burton was still married at the time). However, proving the naysayers wrong, the wonderfully talented pair enjoyed a famously tempestuous relationship that saw them collaborate on 12 movies before calling time on their ten-year marriage in 1974. The two married again the following year but the union was not to last and the pair divorced, again, 16 months later.
Rex FeaturesBrad Pitt & Angelina Jolie
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie famously met and fell for each other in 2005 on the set of Mr & Mrs Smith, but it took 10 years (and six children later) for the pair to reunite on screen again. They played an unhappy couple in the 2015 drama By The Sea. Maybe a little close to bone seeing as they split only a year later.
Rex FeaturesMatt Damon & Ben Affleck
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been friends since childhood so it’s little surprise that they both broke into Hollywood together, too. After penning the Good Will Hunting script together, the two went on to garner nine Oscar nominations and win the gong for Best Original Screenplay. Since then the two have been in four more flicks together.
Rex FeaturesShailene Woodley & Ansel Elgort
Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort really do make a dream team. Just watch The Fault In Our Stars, Insurgent or Divergent and you'll see...
