How many hours of tutorials have we watched on creating the perfect mermaid braid or boho beach waves?
Think ‘hairstyles’ and we mostly think of complicated ’dos that take hours to master. The humble bun tends to fall into the ’it’s early and I couldn’t find a hairbrush’ category. But recently, we’ve seen lots of celebrities are embracing the bun, and now it seems the rest of us are, too.
Pinterest has released the most pinned hair trends of 2018 around the world. And in the UK the bun rules, only this time it’s a side bun. Searches for side buns are up 164% on last year, and we can see why.
As well as being easy, buns can also look seriously good, in a ’I woke up like this’ lazy cool-girl way. But make it a side bun, and you’ve got an easy style that also looks sleek and pulled together. Think of it like the regular bun’s grown-up sister. We are totally feeling the side bun for nights out, weddings and just days when you’re feeling a bit fancy.
In France they’re also loving the Meghan-Markle-inspired messy bun, with searches up 137%, while in the US, braids are beauty lovers’ crowning glory – with 445% more pins than last year.
In Argentina, it's all about the fringe – or bangs, if you prefer – with a huge rise in pins of flequillo abierto (’open bangs’) where the fringe parts in the centre and tapers out into longer strands to frame the face.
