It's the glitziest night in the fashion calendar but who was your best dressed star?

The singer donned this sheer Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci gown, which was embellished with sequins around the body, and stretched out into a two tone purple and black feather train.
Rex FeaturesWhile many stars chose long evening gowns, Gwyneth Paltrow opted for a shorter hemline with this lilac halterneck dress by Prada. The front and back of the dress were relatively plain, but the side pockets were decorated with matching pailettes. Her shoes were also by Prada and those elegant hoop earrings are by Anna Hu.
Rex FeaturesOur best dressed woman Kristen Stewart wore this Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière colour-block outfit that is bound to divide fashion critics. The actress accessorised this edgy choice with mulitstrap white sandals.

Rex FeaturesRenée Zellweger was another star making a nod to the sheer trend, in this gorgeous Emilio Pucci panelled black gown. Huge diamond chandelier earrings are mandatory for the Met Ball, right?
Rex FeaturesMary-Kate Olsen made the most of the Met Ball red carpet, by choosing to promote her own label The Row. The blonde actress stepped out in this black column dress from her line, adding a metallic bag and a statement up-do to finish the look. Chic, or scary? We’ll let you decide.

In fact her entire outfit was by the designer, including her Armadillo heel sandals and knuckle box clutch.
Rex FeaturesJessica Alba loves her gold dresses so we weren’t surprised to see her turning to the colour for the Met Ball. Her one-shouldered Grecian goddess gown was by Michael Kors and made from draped lamé. She accessorised with Wilfredo Rosado jewelery.
Rex FeaturesJanuary Jones looked worlds away from Mad Men and the 50s in this fashion-forward, sculptural lemon Versace gown. But she went vintage for her jewellery, wearing an antique Cartier diamond and turquoise necklace and golden clutch.

She wore her hair in a low-maintenance ponytail and kept make-up minimal, meaning that all eyes were on this truly divine dress.

Rex FeaturesActress Emma Stone clearly wanted to opt for something a little different on the red carpet, although this Lanvin dress still looks gorgeous. The cherry red mini dress was embellished with thousands of plastic flowers and crystals, and matched with her simple but elegant black heels – we love this look.
Rex FeaturesFlorence Welch posed happily on the red carpet with McQueen designer Sarah Burton and Cate Blanchett (who was wearing one of Sarah’s designs). The trio arrived at the event together, and, whilst Sarah opted for a more understated look, Cate and Florence complimented each other perfectly in their light and dark feathery gowns.
