'Blokey blokes' are a dying breed
I never come across them any more. Guys in general are more in touch with their feminine side. I don't know if I like that -1 like a proper man who can look after me a bit when I need it.
It's not about grand gestures
Romance is being thoughtful and considerate, not drowning me with designer handbags or flashing your cash. My ex once bought all my favourite sweets, stuffed them in a jar and left it for me when I came home. That's romantic.
Men need it s-p-e-l-t out
This is the biggest thing I've learnt about guys over the years. Unless you tell them specifically how you're feeling, they won't know. Women say we're fine even when we're not and expect them to 'get it', but they're just not as intuitive as us.
A bad boy can be reformed
I don't believe once a cheater, always a cheat. People can always change and you might be the girl to change him. Cheating is such a grey area, and you can't comment until you're put in that situation.

We want men to want us
It's a myth that women want to be showered in gifts - what we love more than anything is when he's into us and wants to be around us. Marv and I are happiest just being together, whether we're out clubbing or at home chilling.
Fiery is over-rated
In a good relationship you won't argue very often. If you ultimately want the same things there won't be much to argue about, will there? I think the healthy balance is not nagging, but not losing your independence either.
He won't play games if he's interested
As soon as I met Marv there was no, 'Should I text him back now or should I leave it a week?' Straight off he'd say, 'What are you doing? Can I come over?' If I didn't like him, I would have found that too much, but if you're right for each other, you find a way of making it work without all the games.
Women call the shots
In every solid relationship that I've been in or been around, the man thinks he's holding the reins, but the woman really is. Only let a man treat you the way you want to be treated.

Old-fashioned chivalry works
I love an old-school gentleman. Picking me up for dates, sending flowers, holding the door open, love it all. I think a man should treat you like a princess.
Men like tough women
Never take crap from a man or they won't respect you. Stand your ground. Let them walk all over you and they will. Men like independent women, simple.
Spontaneity keeps things hot
My ex used to surprise me all the time and that kept things fresh. He'd spontaneously plan a weekend getaway, or I'd come home to find dinner ready.
Dependable isn't a dirty word
Romantic gestures are brilliant but, at the end of the day, I want someone who is there for me. There's a lot to be said for loyalty.

Men calm us down
Ben is extremely laid back whereas I am wound up most of the time, but it works. If I was with someone as stressed as me we'd kill each other. Yes, we row, but it keeps the relationship spicy.
He needs space (and so do I!)
I don't speak to Ben much over the phone and never if I'm going to see him that night. That way we have more to talk about in person.
A real man isn't threatened by success
I've had boyfriends who've tried to bring me down and make me feel ashamed of being successful because they don't understand it. I don't hold grudges. Someone who isn't right for me might be perfect for someone else.
Man caves aren't just in movies
Ben calls his The Boys' Room. It's got a flatscreen TV, a Sky+ box and more computer games than I can understand. What is it about men and computer games? ©

single - and loving it
It's not healthy to live in each other's pockets
My longest relationship was two years. I spent all my time with him. I wasn't making time for my friends and that's not how a relationship should be. I'm happy being single and not looking for anything right now.
You can't beat a sense of humour
I know everyone says it, but it's so important. I love that dry, blokey, piss-taking banter. Sometimes I think I've actually got a bloke's sense of humour.
Guyliner is a deal breaker
I like a man's man. Tattoos, facial hair and a piercing, please! I don't go for the fake-tanned, clean-cut look at all.
Men and women can be friends
I've got tons of male friends and they're like my brothers. I love them to bits, but could never be romantically involved with any of them. Growing up, there may have been the odd drunken kiss, but we just laugh at it now.
