Kate Winslet's Style Evolution

Kate Winslet's style journey has certainly been a Revolutionary Road...
Rex FeaturesKate Winslet burst onto our radar in 1996 with her Oscar-nominated performance in Sense & Sensibility. Unfortunately, this black lace ensemble didn’t do her stunning English Rose looks justice. But it was one of her first red carpet appearances, so we’ll let this one slide.

Rex FeaturesKate was a little more covered up in LA in the same year but, while we quite liked the colour she chose for her jacket, she could have run a brush through her hair. It was the Golden Globes after all!

Rex FeaturesKate’s first (of many) Oscar appearances came in 1996 and, along with her undeniable star quality, her sense of style started to shine through. This baby pink dress was the perfect shape for her figure but it wasn’t Kate’s colour - and she never wore the shade on the red carpet again.

Rex Features1998 was the year of Titanic and Kate’s style took a gothic turn. At the Oscars with her then-boyfriend Jim Threapleton, Kate opted for this dramatic green and gold brocade Alexander McQueen gown to match her new russet locks. Needless to say, the new look divided critics - but we loved it.

Rex FeaturesBut one outfit that got everyone’s seal of approval in 1998 was Kate’s wedding dress. The gown, designed especially for her by Alexander McQueen, was Edwardian in design and covered all over in tiny antique beads. Reminiscent of another Kate’s future wedding dress, perhaps?

Rex FeaturesUnlike many stars, Kate’s always been a bit of a jacket fiend. At the Iris premiere in 2002, she shunned the usual gown for a sleek tuxedo jacket and trousers, both by Dolce & Gabbana.
