A magazine rejected this never-before-seen photo of Kate Moss in the 90s because they didn't think she could compete with the Supers
Much like fish and chips, scones and Queen Elizabeth, Kate Moss is an absolute British icon.
Famed for her killer cheekbones, DGAF attitude and sartorial prowess, she's dominated the fashion scene ever since she was discovered age 14 in 1988.
The Croydon-born model was discovered by Sarah Doukes of Storm Models and quickly rose to become one of the most recognisable faces in magazines, scoring contracts with the Calvin Klein, Burberry, Longchamp and YSL.
Lest we forget, Kate's fame soared during the late 90s and Noughties due to high-profile relationships with the likes of Johnny Depp, Jefferson Hack, with whom she has a daughter Lila Grace and, most notoriously, Pete Doherty.
Whilst most models' careers don't survive more than a decade, Kate has reigned supreme as one of fashion's most sought-after faces, starring in campaigns and releasing her own range of products long beyond her catwalk heydays.
And just when you thought you'd seen every campaign, catwalk appearance and inebriated post-club snap, a never-before-seen snap of the model has just been unearthed - and it has a pretty interesting story behind it.
Hampstead’s Zebra One Gallery has unearthed this stunning photograph by singer-turned-photographer, Kate Garner, of Kate Moss, taken in 1990 as a statement that Moss was leaving grunge behind and entering a new glamorous, more sophisticated phase.
The theme of the shoot was ‘the morning after the night before’ and this image shows Kate getting ready for a glamorous night out, with her hair in curlers.
The image was commissioned by Esquire magazine just before Moss became a star, but was rejected and never published, because she didn’t have the ‘glamazon’ look that was still in favour and they didn’t feel she could compete with the likes of Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington.
Big mistake, huge!
