The most 'gram-worthy items from the autumn winter 17 shows 📷
Remember when an avocado was just an avocado? Us neither. Today, smashed or sliced on toast, it’s the canny Instagrammer’s photogenic brunch of choice (last #avocadotoast count: 409,722 and rising).
This season, we’re running our wardrobes through the avotoast test; that is, opting for pieces with major ‘like’ appeal. Social media has made exhibitionists out of us all, and now designers are magicking up show-off pieces to match. In an endless stream of runway shots, selfies, belfies (please stop) and OOTDs, we’re seeking out the boldest, most clickbait-worthy designs. Whether it’s embellishment, gargantuan proportions, high-vis hues or a hefty dose of irony (see Dolce & Gabbana’s Justin Bieber T-shirt), these pieces are demanding attention for all the right reasons.
Gucci’s Alessandro Michele is perhaps the patron saint of the Instagrammable aesthetic. A/W17 is no exception – eclectic, oddball and heart-flutteringly gorgeous, it’s a lesson in mixing things up. The key rule of Instagram is, after all, dare to be different. Yes, there will always be a spot in our hearts for leather and cashmere – but it’s offline. Now it’s less about a #humblebrag and more of a #bragbrag.
The ultimate brag move? Rihanna in the piece of the season: Saint Laurent’s crystal-bedecked boots. She summed up their appeal in one word: “obsessed”. Feel the same as @badgalriri? Those boots already boast a waiting list, despite their £6,000 price tag. In other words, a lot of avotoast.
