Many of her followers were impressed with her comeback and her desire to defend pregnant women, who are often shamed into getting 'back to their pre-baby weight' in an unreasonable amount of time.

Helen and her Call the Midwife co-star Jack Ashton welcomed their daughter Wren Ivy in October 2017. She arrived early, and was even able to attend her own baby shower! Helen suffered from ICP throughout her pregnancy and has been vocal about supporting charities that work to help women who need support.

Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) is also known as obstetric cholestasis (OC) and affects around 5,500 women a year in the UK. ICP occurs when the flow of bile, which is produced in the liver and stored in the gallbladder, becomes sluggish. The bile acids in bile help us to digest food, but they are toxic in large amounts. As the flow of bile slows down, these bile acids build up and flow into the bloodstream. They are not life-threatening for the mother-to-be, but they do cross the placenta and reach the baby.

Thankfully, little Wren is getting along just fine.
