H&M just launched a 100% vegan, PETA-approved collection of super cosy statement pieces to up your fashion game for winter
The high street stalwart has been tapping into the world of sustainability, but those devoted to the ethical fashion cause have long been hoping for an exclusively vegan H&M drop.
It may be one of the world's most well-known and loved high street fashion labels right now, but that's not to say that H&M is willing to rest on its laurels. After many years (and ongoing) of investing in sustainable initiatives and educating both itself and its customer on environmentally-friendly fabrics and practices - predominantly via the super popular ‘H&M Conscious’ launches - the label has today launched a brand new collection focussing on another very important, separate element of conscious fashion.

Entirely approved by the recognised animal rights organisation People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), this 100% vegan H&M drop includes both menswear and womenswear, and is available worldwide online and in selected stores.

"The ‘Co-Exist Story’ collection epitomises our ongoing commitment at H&M to exploring innovative alternatives to animal-derived fabrics while still offering our customers cutting-edge fashion", said Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative advisor at H&M. "H&M and PETA have enjoyed a positive dialogue throughout the project, and we are proud to support the valuable work that PETA is doing every day."

Making use of innovative animal-substitute fabrics such as FLWRDWN™ (an alternative to animal down made using wildflowers) and VEGEA™ (a plant-based substitute for oil-based and animal-derived leathers), this is a collection which proves that conscious fashion and statement-making styles are absolutely not mutually exclusive.
Science just got very chic.

"Much of our work at PETA is accomplished by forming positive relationships with companies such as H&M as we strive to end the use of animal-derived materials," said PETA Corporate Responsibility Manager Laura Shields. "We’re thrilled to partner with H&M on a collection that features fabulous vegan designs that are kinder to the planet and to the animals who live on it."

Oversized silhouettes, 90s-inspired party wear and acid accents feature heavily, while a cream faux fur made from recycled polyester and a one-shouldered knitted midi with a fringed trim in an ECONYL® blend are undoubtedly two of the collection's showstoppers.
There are similar questions being asked in silk and leather industries.

“We designed this collection for modern urbanites, those who love the social hubs of city life but equally crave weekends spent wearing their waterproof rubber boots immersed in nature," revealed Malin Dubois, senior designer at H&M. "We’re proud to be able to unite two passions: versatile, fashion-forward design with more sustainable PETA-approved alternatives to animal-derived materials."
