H&M Home For the Love of Art: An inexpensive interiors edit from female artists, Lulama Wolf and Amber Vittoria
H&M Home For the Love of Art is just one of the ways our friends at Hennes work to support artists and designers. Indeed, the brand have spotlighted talents including India Mahdavi and Diane Von Fürstenberg, and in 2021, H&M Home then introduced its first ‘For the Love of Art’ project. Setting out to support the creative industry by giving artists a platform, thus far FTLOA has been led by female artists: Brunna Mancuso, Diana Ejaita, Célia Amroune and Aline Kpade in the first collection and, now two years on, with Lulama Wolf and Amber Vittoria for a second instalment. Between Lulama and Amber, this latest drop boasts pieces to suit most interiors tastes and, be it the fringed throw blankets or the graffiti-print posters, these women are really excelling in their respective fields.
South African artist Lulama Wolf takes inspiration from modern African art and uses earthy, neutral tones throughout her work. If you're in the market for a texture-laiden piece to add dimension to a flat, mid-century modern sofa, or perhaps a stark, bare carpet, Lulama's new collection of rugs and tufted cushions will be headed straight for your wishlist. By contrast, Amber Vittoria's designs are more maximalist with a bold spectrum of colours and asymmetric, unpredictable patterns a huge part of their charm. Amber is from the US and works as an poet, author and artist; her writing plays a prominent role in her FTLOA collection as she focuses on the subtleties of life as a woman. Speaking about their new home decor pieces, both Lulama and Amber remarked on a similar want for their pieces to be loved and looked upon fondly within buyers' homes. To that, Lulama added, “I want my work and art to reach and impact more people in a way that honours where I came from.” Echoing Lulama's sentiment, Amber described the collaboration with H&M Home as, “an accessible and colourful way to bring art into your home."
Certainly, the accessibility of H&M Home is part and parcel of the department's appeal. After all, rare is it to see such trending designs (let alone an artwork collab with SA and US artists) at such inexpensive price points. Hence their repeat bestseller performance in-store and online. Describing her thoughts on the collection's merits, Evelina Kravaev-Söderberg, head of design & creative at H&M Home, said, “[The collection] allows H&M Home to both inspire customers with the artists' talents, as well as adorn their homes with it.”
Between Lulama and Amber, the homeware ranges from graphic cushion covers to hand-painted plates. For me, the ceramics are the star of the show. Whether you want to take Amber's I Love Me plate or Lulama's motif serving dish, both offer buyers a myriad of interior design options. Think: a trinket tray, a fruit bowl or even a plant pot draining dish. Elsewhere, this illustrative poster from Amber's edit brings a pop of colour in an understated, printmaking medium. It's a top pick for adult and kid's rooms alike, and you can even nab yourself an H&M frame at the same time (& take full advantage of that free H&M member delivery…).
