Fast Fashion: Denim Kicks
What a perverse set of circumstances that fashion chooses to mirror the economy and become threadbare at the knee, tatty, bleached and acid-washed - and for some reason (perhaps Balmain's spring/summer 2009 collection?), we all want to fly the flag of hardship, look unkempt, as though the housekeeper has left town and the iron has broken, and we should fight our way through these difficult times looking fabulous. Ever on the pulse, Fast Fashion has found the best shabby-chic, boyfriend-style denim jeans, accessories and stone-wash jackets (think Lady GaGa), so you recessionistas can master the look du jour without claiming bankruptcy. The key to working this look is in keeping accessories minimal but statement, make-up polished (because shabby clothes + shabby face = plain shabby!), rolling up your sleeves and turning up your hemline. Make denim look lived in, playful and in a hand-me-down spirit.
