Scarlett Johansson's hair stylist has dropped a haircare range (and it's packaged in plastic rescued from the ocean)
These days, buying from brands who are doing their bit for the planet is at the top of our list of priorities. It's really important. That's why it was music to our ears when we learnt that celebrity hairdresser, Frederic Fekkai, had dropped his first eco-friendly, totally sustainable product line. And from today, it's available in Selfridges and on Feel Unique. Hoorah!
With over 30 years of experience in the hair industry, Frederic knows exactly what he’s talking about. He has taken his hugely successful brand from 5th Avenue to the homes of women like Scarlett Johansson, Renee Zellweger and Hilary Clinton. And now to your bathroom.
Frederic’s product line, FEKKAI, is made up of five different collections which each focus on something different (although all of the products are free from silicone, parabens and sulfates). There’s a collection for blondes, a collection to promote strength, one for coloured hair, volume and gloss. Whatever your hair needs help with, you’re covered. It’s just an added bonus the packaging is THAT pretty.
The brand is vegan and cruelty-free, their packaging is made from 95% recycled materials that have been fished out of the ocean and the packaging is 100% recyclable. Hallelujah.
Frederic told us: “Being green became important to me over a decade ago, and since then I’ve made a commitment to live a more sustainable life both personally and professionally. With the launch of FEKKAI, I am more committed than ever to sustainability through our products and in the world.”
He continued: “In the brand’s first year, we will repurpose 64 million grams of plastic. That’s roughly 7 million plastic bottles - and we are just getting started.”
Originally made for Audrey Hepburn, it remains a celebrity go-to.
So which products in the line are worth shouting about? (Spoiler: all of them.) “The Brilliant Gloss Multi-Tasker Perfecting Crème is a product I couldn’t work without - it’s a moisture-packed versatile finisher with a soufflé-like consistency which incorporates French cold-pressed olive oil to impart high-shine and protect against frizz. For coarser hair types, I suggest using it on dry hair for extra moisture and shine.”
There’s also the Super Strength Roots-to-Ends Balm, a product which Frederic anticipates will have lots of success. It’s the most versatile product in the line which can be used as a quick-yet-intense rinse-out mask. Or it can be applied to dry hair and left in all day to maximise its bond-building benefits.
