Fashion talking points from the 2017 Oscars
The Oscars are one of the biggest nights of the year for the fashion industry - besides the Met Gala understandably - (lest we ever forget Zayn's robot arm).
Stylists, designers and tailors alike prep months in advance for that single moment when the chosen few walk the 33 ft red carpet (nice bit of award show facts for you there) and hold their collective breath for the sartorial judgment.

From Dakota Johnson's fresh off the runway Gucci dress, to Naomie Harris in her white Clavin Klein By Appointment, here is our round-up of what Oscar outfits have got the fashion team talking.

While black is sometimes considered a safe red carpet option, both Brie Larson in Oscar De La Renta and Taraji P Henson in Alberta Ferreti looked sensational in their black velvet dresses. Clearly the velvet trend is here to stay.

Feathers, a big trend from the spring summer 2017 catwalk, were seen on Sofia Boutella who wore Chanel couture and Octavia Spencer in custom Marchesa. There were no ruffled features here, only impressed applause.

A big colour to pull off, but Karlie Kloss looked incredible in this Stella McCartney gown (anyone else getting Rita Hayworth vibes?) while Naomi Harris gets a big fashion thumbs up in this By Appointment Calvin Klein dress.
Men in white
It wasn't just the ladies hitting the red carpet in white. Dev Patel looked daper wearing a custom Burberry suit, while Oscar presenter Jamie Dornan was wearing an Hermés tuxedo, a Cartier watch and Tod’s shoes. And yeah - we approve.

These two ladies have some of the best stylists in the game. Leith Clarke managed to get Felicity Jones in 2017 Dior Couture, whilst Kate Young really impressed by dressing Dakota Johnson in a Gucci autumn winter '17 dress (literally days after it was shown in Milan).

We loved the plunging necklines as seen on Emma Roberts wearing vintage Armani Privé and Michelle Williams who wore Louis Vuitton.

Adding a touch of old Hollywood glamour, were Olivia Culpo in Marchesa and Emma Stone in Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci. Emma is the first Lead Actress to win the Oscar in Givenchy since Audrey Hepburn.

Red carpet rule #1. Don't match your dress to the carpet! But these actresses proved that you can sometimes you CAN break the rules as seen on Ruth Negga in Valentino and Viola Davis in Armani Prive.
Belts
Normally she's red carpet royalty, but Scarlett Johansson wasn't quite winning it for us this year.
Wearing a punchy printed dress with a clashing belt, she seemed to get lost in the fabric. Also opting for a belt was Teresa Palmer who wore a gorgeous fitted Prada dress, but maybe should of ditched the ill-placed belt.
3D
The stand out dresses (in more sense than one) this year were from Leslie Mann wearing a yellow Zac Posen gown and Janelle Monáe in Elie Saab Couture. Making like Marie Antionette on the red carpet, we admire their showmanship, but how on earth did they sit down?
