Dunkirk made HOW much in its opening weekend?
With a voice that's sold millions, hair that's made headlines and a cheeky chappy personality that has won the hearts of interviewers (and Victoria's Secret models alike), it would seem only fair to the remainder of the male population for Harry Styles to absolutely SUCK at acting. We're talking hide-behind-your-hands really, really AWFUL stuff, here. But alas...
Never will teenage girls be more interested in the rich history of World War Two after Harry Styles' debut acting performance in Christopher Nolan's epic, Dunkirk. The film has not only received rave reviews (with critics applauding Harry's performance) but absolutely smashed its opening weekend at the box office taking $106 million globally.
Dunkirk which was released on Friday, surpassed its initial target as it made $50.5 million in the US and $12 million in the UK alone this weekend. It also beat American comedy Girls Trip into second place at IMAX venues, making $1.6 million.
In the film Harry plays Alex, a tenacious, barely-out-of-his-teens British soldier who is - along with another 330,000 soldiers including Tommy, played by Fionn Whitehead -desperate to escape Dunkirk as the German army rapidly advance into France, roughly eight months into WWII.
His performance has had largely positive reviews with Empire saying it's "definitely not the Rihanna-in-Battleship debacle you may have feared" (their words not ours, Rih) and The Mirror saying "if you didn’t know who the was, you‘d probably be picking him out as an actor to watch."
Dunkirk has already sparked awards chatter with people calling the film Nolan's best yet. But can it make a dent at the Oscars, due to take place in early 2018? And does Harry stand a chance at an Actor in a Supporting Role nom? Only time will tell...
