The spring/summer runways all had one thing in common this year; some of the best designer tote bags we've seen in a while.
Miniature bags had their moment a few seasons back, with XXL accessories quickly replacing them, but now? We're in our happy-medium phase. Something with all the practicality of one of the best work bags but that maintains the on-trend appeal of something more fashion-y.
The Row Margaux was the catalyst (and sort of remains so, TBH, even though it's impossible to get hold of one), with its perfect proportions and semi-slouchy-yet-structured medicine bag shape. It created a demand in the market for similar silhouettes, and as such, has reintroduced the humble tote back into our lives.
Now spotted at Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Stella McCartney and Giorgio Armani, consider our interests piqued.
If you're new to the larger arm candy movement, and a spacious interior puts you off/you hate the thought of having to dig around for your belongings, opt for an east-west bag instead of a north-south. Totes are called as such depending on the orientation of their longest side – see below.

So, which are the designer tote bags we're lusting after most RN? Bottega Veneta continues to be a cult choice with the fashion pack. The Andiamo is a mega investment but the classic styling means you can carry it forever. Saint Laurent's Le 5 À 7 Bea is similarly timeless, as is Manu Atelier's coveted Le Cambon 35.
