Embellished denim

It was a Valentino Couture FW 23/24 moment that officially switched up ‘jeans a nice top’ to ‘nice jeans and a top’. Creative Director, Pierpaolo Piccioli reinvented vintage Levi’s 501 into an embellished trouser style mirroring what looked like denim, but definitely wasn’t. The piece was an incredible craft of beads embroidered diagonally in the same way as the twill of denim and styled back to a crisp white shirt on Kaia Gerber as the opening look. Denim? Couture? Well, yes a little groundbreaking to fashion insiders. It was, in every sense, a defining fashion moment. Embellished jeans are a break-through statement trend that continue to bring a lot more fun to day-to-night looks. From eyelets and fringe to diamanté and sequins, this trend is the fun in clothes that was much needed after the reign of quiet luxury.

Frame, the hero go-to denim brand has designed a show piece season after season that's statement enough to pair back to basics, an outfit recipe that won't fail you. And Rotate has reimagined the wardrobe staple in true Scandi-girl fashion, just look to the street-style crowd for outfit inspiration.

Denim trench

The denim trench has proven itself a staple in outerwear, going effortlessly from a functional coat to a stand-alone outfit. For SS25, Schiaparelli reimagined this classic with bold details, showing just how high fashion denim can get. This is the evolution in wearable era that the creative director, Daniel Rosberry is leading the brand in. FW24 was a turning point for the ready-to-wear womenswear collection for the brand with a remix of trouser and skirt denim sets that felt like tomorrow's treasures.

When it comes to shopping, The Frankie Shop is the fail-safe destination known for versatile staple pieces that are the ultimate additions to a forever wardrobe. Their offering of outerwear with a desired modern fit means the pieces are ideal for layering and transeasonal dressing. The denim trench has hit many wishlists and since been a fav outfit for show go-ers styled belted with a statement shoe or bag. Dries Van Noten first launched its artisanal denim capsule in SS23, with continued bleached pieces for FW24 that offer boxy light denim silhouettes, the go to for modern romantics.

Upcycled and vintage denim

In today's shopping landscape, finding a ‘new’ pair of jeans often means opting for upcycled or pre-loved options. With deadstock fabrics readily available, many brands are embracing upcycling to create one-of-a-kind, unique designs. On the other hand, buying vintage denim feels like an even smarter choice when you consider the broader environmental impact of fashion and the resource-heavy process of producing new denim.

A.W.A.K.E mode has embraced upcycling and recycling by reimagining discarded materials into bold, innovative pieces that redefine denim. Their recognisable denim collections with patchwork design and off-cuts add character to the otherwise blank template of denim.

Hunting down vintage denim has never been more appealing, with resale sites like eBay, Vestiaire, and HEWI offering luxury finds at a fraction of their original price. Jean Paul Gaultier’s denim pieces are a perfect nod to the noughties aesthetic, while YSL vintage reimagines 90s model-off-duty for a modern wardrobe staple with personality.

Wide-leg denim

Wide-leg denim became a staple in wardrobes around the world around the 1960-70’s, they were the hallmark of bohemian. Since then, trousers have evolved through various baggy iterations, from the oversized hammer pants of the 90s to the revival of flared jeans in the noughties. Today, the love for loose-fitting denim has come full circle, with brands like Balenciaga leading an athleisure movement which has relaxed silhouettes as the ultimate cool-girl way of dressing. Oversized denim has cemented itself as a fashion insider’s staple, its effortless nature now more coveted than ever. The mantra? The wider, the better.

Italian denim brand Haikure has quickly become known for its sharp cuts and contemporary redesigns that offer fresh styles to just the usual pair of jeans. Entire Studios, founded by Yeezy collaborators and Kylie Jenner stylists, have become an insider favourite for contemporary oversized silhouettes.
