Tippi, Melanie & Dakota: Three Generations of Hollywood Beauty
Tippi Hedren was catapulted to Hollywood fame with her role in Birds; her daughter Melanie Griffith was an 80s icon thanks to being the original Working Girl and her daughter Dakota Johnson is currently taking on the challenge that is Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey.
We look at the beauty looks these three Hollywood women have rocked over the years and how they've adapted them for their own era.

RexThe Up-Do
Tippi Hedren’s signature hairstyle circa 1965 was this up-do. Her diminutive features and oval face shape were emphasized by this style which saw her hair smoothed and pinned back around her ears. It’s a classic 60s look but it’s one that’s been updated over the years too.

Melanie Griffith worked a similar style to that of her mother’s nearly 50 years later. The actress gave the up-do a more-modern twist by leaving a few strands to frame her face and adding a subtle quiff at the front.

Dakota Johnson kept the family ‘do going in 2013 with this slick style. Like Melanie, the actress left some strands loose but the style looks more dramatic because she’s decided to go brunette (Dakota is a natural blonde).

Not our favourite look from Tippi but the actress certainly embraced the good, old 80s perm with aplomb. We’re pleased to say these tight curls weren’t a style that the actress stayed with for long.

Dakota Johnson’s go-to hair tends to be straight so we were pleased that she gave this shaggy wave a go. It’s given added impact thanks to a dramatic smoky eye and her choppy fringe.

Tippi Hedren went for a brash red lip in the sixties – well, it was the decade for making a statement. For maximum impact, she kept the rest of her make-up as natural as possible. A sensible choice.

Dakota Johnson has no fear when it comes to wearing a bold lip. Just look at this cherry hue! Had she been brunette, this colour would have been too much but as a blonde, it’s a good choice.

Tippi Hedren has certainly learnt how to wear her hair over the years and this look – a neat bob is one of our favourites. We like the gentle wave and the blond highlights work well with her gold and pearl accessories.
