Courtney Love's 13 greatest looks ever
If the 90s is fashion's favoured new decade, then Courtney Love is queen. Wild, loud and unapologetic, no one represents grungy cool like Love.
She changed the way women dressed in the 90s, making it acceptable, cool even, to look messy and undone. She wore slip dresses with chunky boots, tiaras on top of messy hair, teamed babydoll dresses with leather jackets and flannel shirts borrowed from her husband Kurt Cobain. Another signature was her love of a leopard print coat, which she'd wear with laddered tights and a slip.
Love was big into vintage, buying most of her clothes from thrift stores. She ripped up prescribed notions of dressing up and created something completely new. Who knew channeling a depraved, inebriated Victorian woman could look so damn alluring? She also challenged stereotypes of how women in the public eye should behave - she's an original rock 'n' roll provocateur, brash and ballsy. Her ultimate accessory was, and still is, her guitar.
Her fashion influence today is stronger than ever. You only need to look at every Saint Laurent show delivered under Hedi Slimane to see that (spare its latest collection). The French brand seemingly plunders Love's wardrobe each season for inspiration, churning out multiple grungy dresses worn with laddered tights and luxe leather jackets.
Like or loathe her, Love has swagger. She's always known that true style is about confidence and knowing who are and there aren't many who have as much of that as Courtney Love.
