You could argue that TikTok has made trends impossibly fleeting, and you would be correct, but there are some fashion moments that stick around long enough to impact the way we dress. And this is one of them. Bows have been everywhere for the last couple of years, along with other femme staples like pearls, ruffles and ballet flats.

The ubiquity of these cutesy ribbons is partly due to the rise of girly, hyper-feminine designers such as Simone Rocha, Sandy Liang and Cecilie Bahnsen. (The holy trifecta of girly design.) Not to mention, you have the popularity of online aesthetics such as “coquette” in recent years, which has got the girlies wanting to look like a cross between a wedding cake and a Sofia Coppola character.

Now, what was already a massive trend has spiked in the run-up to Christmas with almost 2 million searches in the past 2 weeks, according to Google Trends. Granted, some of those are probably people looking to wrap their gifts… but still!
