Hair Tips From The Top

Kelly Brook says that there are some disadvantages to having hair as healthy as hers. “I've always had good hair, which is the envy of some other women. I know I'm lucky, but the downside is it's often accompanied by bushy eyebrows!”PA Photos
We've grilled the hairdressers to the stars and teased out the top tips they share with their celebrity clients. Here's how to get A-List hair...

Top Tip: If your hair is really frazzled apply a deep conditioning treatment then get a towel that’s big enough to wrap around your head. Put the towel in a bowl of water and pop in the microwave for a minute and a half. Wring out the water and wrap around your head until it’s cool. This will help the conditioning treatment penetrate your hair and give you really glossy locks.

A-List Tress-Tender: Richard Ward
Top Tip:
Celebrity undone/wavy hair isn’t always easy to create! You need to blow-dry hair section by section, boost volume with hot rollers and use a volume boosting spray. Once the rollers have set, which takes 20-30 minutes, you then need to use your fingers to ruffle through and create the relaxed waves. A-List Tress-Tender: Lee Stafford
Top Tip: Billie Piper has really grown into her style and the secret is a great, versatile cut. The choppy texture frames her face but she’s also working the ‘frown’ (grown out fringe) really well. If you want to get cool texture like Billie then my tip is to rub a texturising product between your hands then, without looking in the mirror! Mess up your hair, then look in the mirror and just tweak a few strands. We love Lee Stafford Messed Up Wax Spray, £4.99

Top Tip: If you want a really sharp, fashion-forward bob but go for an undercut. It’s how the supermodels get that catwalk-style super-sleek bob.

Top Tip: Red hair can look dull a few weeks after it’s been coloured so it’s a good idea to use a conditioning mask especially for red hair and a shine spray to boost the lustre of the hair. When using shine spray just lightly spray the mist above the head and let it fall onto your hair for a more natural shine effect. David's must-have? Moroccoan Oil Glimmer Shine Spray

Top Tip: Lemon juice really does work at lightening the hair. But my trick is to run lemon juice through the hair before you condition, this way you’ll get really shiny, blonde locks.

Top Tip: I recently did Anglelina Jolie’s hair for a promotion of her new film Salt, and for that I cut her fringe a bit shorter and chipped into it so it looked even softer and ‘swept away’. This is a good technique if you’re growing out your fringe or you have a blunt fringe and you want it softened.

Top Tip: If want to backcomb your hair to give add a little volume, remember to leave the surface section of hair smooth. Backcomb underneath then once you’ve backcombed smooth over and this will disguise all the stray backcombed hairs underneath.

Top Tip: I always use a large radial (round) brush and dry the hair in the opposite direction to which it naturally falls, to give my clients maximum volume and fullness – it works every time!

Top Tip: To get A-list texture don’t be afraid to mix your hair products. Whether you wear your hair up or down, spritz the hair with a little dry shampoo, then use a little wax for separation and tease the hair to get the texture you want.

Top Tip: If you’ve got a big event but your hair is unruly, wash and blow-dry your hair the night before then loosely plait it or twist into a top knot. After sleeping on it the frizz will have settled and your locks will be smoother, with a natural looking wave.

Top Tip: If you’ve got fine hair and you need to boost the volume try crimping the roots but leave the top section of hair, so that you can’t see the crimped hair, and then spritz with a volumising spray.
