If there’s one thing we like gawping at more than celebrity couples, it’s celebrity couple friends. Yup, that magical moment where one A-lister couple meets another – no doubt, at a glittering awards ceremony, or on the set of a box office hit – and everyone thinks, ‘Hey…we should double date!’ And so it borne the celebrity couple-couples: pairings who get along (excuse the pun) famously.
Some of these fabulous foursomes are rooted in a historical friendship from their single days, like Adam Levine & John Legend, who apparently “dated in the same circles” (and yes, you better believe those were circles of supermodels). Other celebrity couple friends emerged naturally as a result of an existing family tie – like the Jonas Brothers’ equally famous spouses’ Priyanka Chopra and Sophie Turner. However these squads came about, we love seeing them pictured out and about – and even more so imagining what they get chatting about when they’re together.
And after all, we’ve all been there. Look, a couple friendship is sometimes forced (we’ve all had those double dates where we’ve secretly said to ourselves, or our partners, ‘Why are we even doing this?!’). But when the dynamic’s good, it’s really good – allowing simultaneous quality time with your other half, plus a relatable pair to bounce off and share experiences with. No, that’s not just a weird take on the idiom – Shailene, Aaron, Miles and Keleigh legitimately went on a hike feat. cliff diving during a holiday in Maui, Hawaii last year. As for how they know each other? Shailene and Miles have co-starred in both The Spectacular Now and Divergent – even filming a sex scene together in the former. But that hasn’t caused any awkwardness between the friends, who now socialise together with their respective other halves.

Do these couples like to hang out together because they both have the same extreme height differences (10 inches between Ashton and Mila, 13 inches between Dax and Kristen)? Who knows. What we do know is that Ashton and Dax’s friendship goes way back to the early Noughties, when the former hosted Punk’d (and Shepard featured in nine episodes). Mila and Kristen’s friendship also dates back many years – they first co-starred in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and later Bad Moms.

Not only do we get to see this famous couple-couple pictured together, we also know the inside scoop on their friendship thanks to Crawford’s memoir, Becoming Cindy, in which she writes of George’s human rights lawyer wife: ‘“I think one of the things I love about Amal is that she’s not only interesting – she’s very interesting to talk to – but she’s also interested in your world as well,” Crawford says at the event, which was held at the 1 Hotel and Homes South Beach. “She can talk to my kids about their thing, or she’ll talk to me about my book or my business.” They first met through George before becoming pals in their own right, apparently – and now their husbands get brought along for double dates.

Elsa Pataky and Lucinda Damon are close pals (you just have to look at the former’s Instagram account to tell) which is super convenient because it means they hang out together while their actor husband, Chris Hemsworth and Matt Damon, co-star in the Thor films. But when everyone’s off work they hang out en masse – holidaying together in Ibiza. Sure, we’re not jealous.

OK, this one’s slightly cheating, because Nick and Joe Jonas are brothers and therefore default pals for life. But we can’t help but love the idea of Games of Thrones actor Sophie Turner and the queen of Bollywood slash pal to Meghan Markle Priyanka Chopra hanging out. Plus, with a 14-year age gap between Priyanka and Sophie, we reckon the former gives excellent advice to her sister-in-law, both on a personal level and as a fellow actor with more industry experience.

Two music superstars and two Victoria’s Secret Angels? Yeah, we sort of get how that couple friends dynamic works. Plus, John and Adam have both been coaches on The Voice. But their friendship dates back further. 'Adam and I have been friends for quite a while, we dated in the same circles,' John Legend told late night talk show host Seth Meyers in 2019. “'We would hang out at like Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition parties.” The outcome sort of makes sense, then.

Plus, Megan’s even started taking style inspiration from her Kardashian sister pal – recently donning a “naked dress” for the VMAs.

Nothing to see here, just two of our all-time favourite A-lister couples hanging out. We’re not surprised these four are pals, to be honest with you. Apart from the fact they’re all ridiculously good looking people who inexplicably seem to maintain a top-grade sense of humour about themselves and their relationships, they also got married around the same time (Blunt/Krasinski in 2010, Lively/Reynolds in 2012) and seem to exclusively give birth to daughters. Anyway, we’re here for it.
