Influencers are obsessed with this new outerwear trend for autumn

If you think of your outerwear wardrobe - that’s everything from your lightest jackets to your fully-fledged winter coats - you’ve likely got a smattering of staples in there. No doubt a denim jacket, a ‘smart work coat’ or two, a little leather weekend number... perhaps even a puffer if you dipped a toe into that trend. What you likely don’t have is one that’s brown.

By no means a new phenomenon (fans of the trench, in particular, have been devotees to the hue for years), this season sees outerwear join forces as it indulges is in the brilliance of the often-overlooked hue.

From deep chocolate tones to pale tans that could almost pass as beige, brown coats and jackets have suddenly blown up in the sartorial world. And, as is often the case, you’ll spot them being championed every time you take even the quickest scroll down your Instagram feed, with some of our favourite influencers latching onto the trend.

Whether they opt for a slightly browner Mac or trench than we’re used to, or go all out and reimagine their love for a blue denim/black leather/coloured corduroy number via a pleasantly muddier hue, we’re, well, influenced.

We’re particularly keen on a patent trench in the hue á la Rejina Pyo, who initiated our love affair with the shade back in February during her AW19 London Fashion Week show.

But it’s not only high-end designers producing the goods, with Zara, & Other Stories and ASOS also launching incarnations that have made their way onto our lust list.
