The best biodegradable glitter for festivalgoers who want to save the planet
If you want to get your sparkle on this festival season, turn your attention to the best biodegradable glitter. Environmentally friendly, biodegradable glitter is free from micro-plastics that, as you may already know, can filter into our oceans and water supply, harming the precious ecosystems.
Most traditional festival glitter is made from micro-plastics. But with the spotlight on sustainability, more and more beauty brands have launched biodegradable glitter options that are made from plant cellulose instead (a material that will break down naturally).

Take Bioglitter®, for instance. It looks just as sparkly as plastic glitter but instead of plastic, the product contains a cellulose from hardwoods (primarily eucalyptus) that biodegrades quickly and safely in the natural environment. It’s worth noting though, that some glitters are labelled as biodegradable but in fact, contain Polylactic Acid (PLA), a material that would not biodegrade if left in the natural environment and would require industrial composting.
