If 2013 was the year of Cara Delevingne then 2014 must belong to Kendall Jenner. No longer just one of the Kardashian klan, the model came into her own, walking for the likes of Chanel, Marc Jacobs and Givenchy. She was announced as the face of Estée Lauder and hosted the Billboard Music Awards with her sister Kylie. She was also linked to Justin Bieber and Harry Styles. Now, that’s when you know you’ve made it!

It wasn’t just amazing dresses making headlines at this year’s Met Ball. CCTV footage of Solange Knowles physically attacking her brother-in-law Jay-Z in a lift was leaked to the press and started all manner of rumours, ranging from a Jay-Z and Rihanna love affair to a drug-addicted Solange. We never got to the bottom of the incident, which saw the singer have to be restrained by bodyguards, but the Knowles camp were quick to confirm that they were “moving forward as a united family”.

Just about every woman on the planet wanted to be Amal Alamuddin this year. After snapping up one of the world’s most eligible bachelors following a whirlwind romance, she showed off an incredible Rivera wardrobe during her Venice wedding, which just about everyone in Hollywood came to. But Amal isn’t your average Hollywood WAG, following her nuptials, it was back to the day job of being a busy barrister and negotiating the return of the Elgin Marbles.

Ellen DeGeneres made history in February when her spontaneous Oscars selfie over-took Barack Obama’s election night victory photo to become the most retweeted message of all-time. The pic, which included Jennifer Lawrence, Angelina Jolie, Channing Tatum, Brad Pitt, Bradley Cooper, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep and Kevin Spacey (phew!), was retweeted 871,000 times in less than an hour. Not only did it break a record, it also broke Twitter itself as the social media site appeared to briefly collapse under the strain during the awards.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s relationship has to be one of the most discussed in Hollywood history but it was with very little ceremony that the pair finally decided to make it official. After nine years and six children, the pair got married at Chateau Miraval in the village of Correns, in front of a handful of friends and family. Pax made the wedding cake and the bride wore a Versace dress which had been decorated by their kids. Cute.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s split after nearly 11 years of marriage was one of the sadder moments of 2014 but the pair were keen to remain amicable, in fact they didn’t even describe their break-up as a split, rather a “conscious uncoupling”. No one was entirely sure what this involved but, while Chris has been linked to Jennifer Lawrence, he and Gwynnie have been spotted looking very happy together several times since.

We know Blake Lively isn’t the first person to ever be pregnant but she must be the first person to do it so stylishly. The actress has showed off her baby bump in a sparkly Michael Kors gown, a Lindsey Thornburg poncho, plunging-cleavage Gucci gown and a Sam & Lavi maxi skirt. It’s a shame she’s only got another few months to go!

Cheryl made a triumphant return to The X Factor this year, bringing a few tears, lots of sparkly outfits and a brand new surname. Mrs Fernandez-Versini is rumoured to have signed a £1.5m contract. Simon Cowell, who also returned to the judging panel, tweeted “It’s official. Cheryl is back. Be careful what you wish for!”

At August’s VMAs, Miley Cyrus took a break from swinging naked on balls and doing crazy things with her hair to highlight the plight of the homeless. She brought along Jesse Helt as her date and he delivered a moving speech, while accepting an award on her behalf. “I’ve been an extra in your movies, I’ve been an extra in your lives,” he said. “Los Angeles has the largest population of homeless youth in America.” Unfortunately, Jesse was jailed for six months in October for violating the terms of his probation.

There must be something in the water around LA because babies seem to be on the agenda for just about half of Hollywood this year. Mila Kunis, Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes and Rachel Bilson all had babies, while Blake Lively, Jessica Biel, Zoe Saldana and Liv Tyler are all due.

The show’s black humour and quirky characters hit a note among audiences and critics alike, helping it pick up a Golden Globe nomination for Taylor Schilling and three Emmys.

We lost several stars this year. Hollywood mourned the loss of Philip Seymour Hoffman in February, after he was found dead following a drugs overdose. Robin Williams died in August after an apparent suicide. Joan Rivers, who was 81, also passed away after complications during throat surgery in September. There was tragedy closer to home too as the Geldofs were forced to mourn yet again following the death of 25-year-old Peaches from a heroin overdose, the drug that also killed her mother.

Emma Watson gave us another reason to totally adore her this year. The actress delivered an emotional and very personal speech at the UN; she revealed that at the age of 14, she started to be sexualised by certain elements of the media and how her girlfriends dropped out of sports teams because they didn’t want to appear “muscle-y”. The star got a standing ovation and #HeForShe trended worldwide on Twitter.

Just in case one-year-old Prince George wasn’t cuteness enough, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced that they were expecting their second child, due April 2015. Poor Kate suffered again with Hyperemesis Gravidarum and was forced to miss out on several royal engagements.

There were more than a few red faces in Hollywood when Lindsay Lohan’s alleged “sex list” was leaked to the press. The list, apparently penned when the actress was in rehab, included the likes of James Franco, Zac Efron, Ashton Kutcher, Justin Timberlake and Orlando Bloom. Several names were blanked out for legal reasons as a few of her conquests weren’t single at the time. Ouch!

This year the stars really seem to have become wrapped up in their very own fairytale. Disney baby names are the latest trend with Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen starting off the craze with their daughter Briar Rose from Sleeping Beauty and Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes following suit with Esmeralda (the gypsy in Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame). With Disney’s [/i]Cinderella[/i] and the Frozen sequel coming out next year, perhaps we can expect a few more names from the Magic Kingdom.

This summer, everyone who was anyone was throwing a bucket of iced water over themselves and donating to charity. The likes of Robert Pattinson, Britney Spears, Anna Wintour, Victoria Beckham, Justin Bieber and Matt Damon all took on the challenge but our personal favourite was Benedict Cumberbatch, who doused himself in cold water six times, including one where he was completely naked. At the time of writing, the ALS (Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis) Association had raised over $100m while the UK’s Motor Neutrone Disease Association raked up £7m in donations.

Two high maintenance matriarchs called time on their relationships in 2014. First up was Head Kardashian Kris Jenner, who filed for divorce from her husband of 22 years, Bruce. Then there was Mariah Carey, who despite renewing her wedding vows with Nick Cannon at a fairytale reception in Disneyland last year, broke things off. Or was it the other way round? The jury’s still out.

After over 500 private pictures found their way onto the internet, several celebrities realised that technology can never be 100 per cent trusted. Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Brown Findlay, Kaley Cuoco and Kate Upton were among the victims of the leak, which occurred when hackers attacked Apple’s iCloud.
E!Kim Kardashian: The Bride & The Bum
What a year it’s been for Kim Kardashian. In June, she tied the knot with Kanye West at suitably lavish wedding ceremony in Florence. The bride wore Givenchy, Lana Del Rey performed at the evening soiree and the Kardashian-Jenner clan weren’t shy about sharing pics on social media. Then in November, Kim posed for Paper magazine, which saw her balancing a champagne glass on her derriere in one photo and showing it off from behind in another. She dared the world to #BreakTheInternet and it nearly did.
