Forget fringing and florals this summer; your summer look requires pompoms.

Colourful, fun and cheerful, pompoms may not be cool, but they are kitsch and that's why we like them. You can't take yourself seriously and wear pompoms, which is an appealing idea in itself.

Even the catwalks are in agreement - at Guccim shoes came with pompom lace-up ties, while Fendi's pompom keyrings have reached cult status - even Cara Delevingne has one. Then there's Elina Linardaki's hand-made lace-up sandals, also covered with pompoms - an essential in any fashion editor's holiday wardrobe this season. We like it best on accessories, whether a colourful detail on flat sandals or to brighten up a beach bag.
