We tried everything from Insta famous brand, Nécessaire, and it lives up to the hype
Spend two minutes scrolling through any Insta-girl's feed, and chances are you'll come across Nécessaire. Since the body-care brand launched in 2018, it's been impossible to avoid photos of its yellowy orange body washes propped up next to a eucalyptus plant or a Diptyque candle, all living together in #Instabathroom harmony.
The sheer volume of influencers hyping it is enough to make you skeptical...if the products genuinely weren't so good.

The thinking behind the brand is that the products you use daily, like body wash and body lotion, don't have to be an afterthought—they can be both good for your body and your well-being. The result is a line of five products, some available in two pure essential oil scents, Sandalwood and Eucalyptus, that will leave your skin feeling incredible while simultaneously transforming your shower or bath routine into a relaxing spa-like experience. The scrubs, washes, and lotions are all made with a list of nos: No parabens, phthalates, sulfates, or silicones, to name a few. There's also The Sex Gel, which might just be the only lube you'll ever see people proudly display in their shelfie.
The reason we can say all this with confidence is because we asked the Glamour team to test out all of Nécessaire's products (at the behest of many of our friends) to truly see whether the internet sensation is all it's cracked up to be. Nécessaire The Body Exfoliator: EucalyptusMy shower routine has always been fairly simple. I used to pick up a basic body wash at my local CVS and call it a day. A couple months ago I was exposed to Nécessaire's body wash and was forever changed. Not only did it make my skin feel incredible; it helped turn my daily shower into a spa, which has long been my dream. The Eucalyptus body exfoliator helps me take that one soothing step further. It also pairs nicely with the actual eucalyptus I have hanging from my shower head, and it makes my skin silkier than I ever thought it could be. Nécessaire The Body Exfoliator: SandalwoodI’ll buy whatever charcoal-infused product a beauty brand is trying to sell me. I have charcoal shampoo, toothpaste, and masks, and (to the dismay of my bathroom counter) I can now add body scrub to the list. I’ve bought my fair share of chalky or too-thick exfoliators that are a pain to even get out of the bottle, but the consistency of this one is a velvety dream. Nécessaire The Body Lotion: Fragrance FreeSave for the occasional splurge on a body oil, I’ve always kept it drugstore when it comes to my body products, so I never knew I could stan a body lotion this hard. Because I have sensitive skin, I try to keep my lotion fragrance-free, but so many “unscented” lotions have a weird paint smell. This one truly smells like nothing. It has a lush and cushy texture that comforts my dry skin within seconds, and keeps my skin silky-smooth all day without feeling heavy or greasy. This body serum has hyaluronic acid, the gold standard for weightless hydration, as well as vitamins B3 and B5, and ceramides that'll help your skin retain moisture. While I would layer this with my moisturizer, it's the perfect texture if you don't like the feel of a lotion but still want all the benefits. —B.C.
